Parrot Cove Lodge

Most importantly, the staff are very kind and helpful and we really appreciated them. That said, the lodge feels kind of run down. Our room (#2) had a really tricky lock that the staff had to explain to us and resulted in much frustration when opening and closing. One reason I chose the lodge was because its website shows a relaxing dock with hammocks overlooking the ocean. When we came, the entire dock was in disrepair with missing and uneven boards and no hammocks to speak of. I also feel really bad for the African gray parrot Rico who lives there. He's all by himself in a poop-stained cage with some old toys. These animals are so social and intelligent that it's sad to see.

Wonderful Hotel Chef Rob runs an amazing hotel. It was our first time in Hopkins, and we look forward to returning. Can’t say enough great things about this place. A must stay if you want to enjoy the coastal beauty of Belize without the crowds of Placencia and San Pedro.

Very nice hotel in Hopkins located in a small area of hotels en restaurants, all directly on the beach. Friendly staff and a perfect first class restaurant from tv cook Chef Rob. We liked the talking parrot very much who was very friendly and walked freely around the pool. Highly recommended!

We absolutely LOVED our stay at Parrot Cove. We could not have been happier. The rooms were simple but large enough to be roomy. The pool was clean and nice. But the best reasons to choose Parrot Cove are the beach, the restaurant, and the staff. We opted in for the dinner package and the food was amazing. However, breakfast was our favorite part of the day. We would start the day looking at the ocean and eating amazing food. It was so relaxing. The beach was not crowded and we never had to fight for beach chairs. There were a few times when we had the beach totally to ourselves. There are lots of ocean toys that guests can use for free anytime. There are also bikes that you can use to bike into Hopkins which we did frequently. The best reason by far to stay at Parrot Cove is the staff. We adored everyone we met. They were super helpful and friendly but most importantly really fun to talk to. Just a few of the amazing staff: Mike and King were excellent servers at the restaurant. We could not have enjoyed them more. Maritza was very helpful in booking our excursions and just generally super friendly. Orlando drove us to a couple places, and he was really interesting to talk to. We learned a lot about Belizean from him. However, the shining star for us during our trip was Tish, who works at the restaurant. She felt like a friend by the end of our stay, and we were sad to leave her. We were genuinely excited to see her at breakfast and dinner. She works extremely hard and is the absolute best. Couple things of note: 1) The sand flies are pretty bad in the morning and at night. Bring or buy bug spray once you arrive. I believe this is something that is common anywhere in Belize, but we did not know that until after we arrived. 2) Rico the Parrot is extremely talkative. We adored him and found him hilarious but if you don’t like sound of parrots this isn’t the place for you. 3) We had a poolside room and it was pretty bright in our room during the night. We figured out a way to block some of the light and it wasn’t a problem, but you may want to bring a sleep mask if you're sensitive to that.

Our flight was delayed several hours, so we picked up our key from Chef Rob's restaurant when we arrived. We had the family suite, which allowed my wife and I to have our own room and each boy to have his own bed. The room also featured a large outdoor sitting space with a clothes drying rack. The only thing that could make it better would be if the bathroom were accessible from the common/kids space. The staff were really friendly, including arranging packed breakfasts to be picked up from the restaurant the night before if you have an early tour or departure (we had one of each). The included breakfast is a great add on. It consisted of fresh juice and a set plate of fruit, bread, sausage and eggs. We didn't take advantage of the beach or complimentary kayaks but appreciated being two doors down from Happy Go Luckie tours. They also have complimentary bicycles to visit the town. We took advantage of those, but I wish that a third of the fleet had larger frames. I'm only 5'7" but the bike felt quite small. On the other hand, my 12 year-old had plenty to choose from. The pool is small but pleasant. My youngest really enjoyed it and it never felt crowded. It's not fancy but is quite comfortable and you get a ton of bang for your buck.
