I booked a three-night stay (9–12 May) at Gatwick Birchwood Lodge with Holiday Parking expecting a restful stopover before my flight—but it was anything but. On the night of 11 May, a night-shift staff member came to work clearly intoxicated, speaking loudly on his phone on speaker right outside my door and in the stairwell. Repeated requests for him to quiet down were ignored. He then proceeded to knock on my door at 4:15 AM offering a towel—an intrusive and inappropriate disturbance. The situation escalated until the police were called between 4:30 AM and 5:00 AM. To make matters worse, I was later falsely accused by the hotel of being intoxicated myself, despite being on prescribed pain medication that prohibits alcohol. *********** kindly credited me £38 as a goodwill gesture, but this does not begin to compensate for the emotional distress, sleepless nights, and ongoing anxiety I now feel about staying in any hotel. Pros: Convenient parking on site Easy access to Gatwick Airport Cons: Unprofessional, intoxicated night-shift staff Loud disturbances all night, ignored guest complaints Intrusive behavior and unwarranted security concerns False accusations against me, leading to reputational damage Insufficient compensation for the trauma experienced I cannot recommend this property until serious changes are made to staff conduct and guest safety procedures.
