When you only have 1 daughter you organise her wedding very carefully - This hotel gave our daughter THE best wedding out there. From a very well organised Events team, wonderful, friendly reception staff, AMAZING food and beautiful, immaculate, clean unique rooms. We werent a family organising a wedding we were a family AND a hotel all making sure not just the bridal party but every guest as well had the best experience, we had a lot of guests staying over and they all had nothing but praise for everything they experienced. The place is so beautiful, so different to anywhere else we looked at, full of some of the best hospitality staff we've ever met. It was the most beautiful experience of our lives and they made that happen.

We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay. Staff lovely. Spa/health club excellent Breakfast great. Lovely quiet room. Good location We went on a Woucher deal including B&B free sppa/healthclub acccess and £32 dinner allowance which was a terrific value for money deal We enjoyed the crazy golf which though a tad dilapidated is free so no complaints from us There’s also tennis and ping pong equipment available free of charge No doubt others will have mentioned that the place is a bit of a maze due to the ad hoc nature of its remodelling over the centuries but we found it amusing and quirky. Great stat

Visited the retreat to get an eyebrow wax and tint and the beautician Abbey was so lovely. She was respectful caring and polite. Will definitely book again.

My husband and i stayed here 15.11.25 for my daughter inlaws birthday with my stepson and what should have been an beautiful night was a absolute nightmare. Firstly the spa was so busy no beds to sit on and towels and gowns everywhere, with no one acually using them.  Secondly we booked our table for 7pm for a dinner reservation,  there were 8 of us dining there but only 4 people staying over night and took 30 mins just to take a drinks order. Then another 15 mintues after that to arrive ,i work in hospitality and theres no way anyone should wait 45 minutes for a drink. Ive stayed plenty of times here and its always been beautiful thats why we booked it, our food was absolutely terrible the standards have definitely dropped barely nothing on the plate ,we had mould on the grapes on my husbands grapes from his cheese board my brownies was rock solid as if its been there for weeks , all other guests were so disappointed with there mains for what they pay so greasy  Then to top off the disappointing food my stepson had organised for staff to bring a birthday plate out for his fiance, to which a male waiter plocked it on the table and say "birthday plate here" i have never experienced a waiter like that. Also not one of our plates had been cleared away at all the table was so cluttered as you can imagine having 8 on a table. Not one person came and did a check back or if we wanted anymore drinks we had to shout a server over.  The manager did discount some of the bill but felt my complaint to her was such and inconvenience to them. i believe the service delivered by your waiter staff was unsatisfactory, and below the standard I would expect from your hotel. Now i go on to breakfast eggs were raw and snotty the sausage were inedible mushrooms werent even cooked , as i say ive stayed multiple times here and im absolutely shocked with how much the standards have dropped in the last few months  Even when checking out this morning there reception desk didnt even ask how our stay was.  Im absolutely devastated it spoiled such a special occasion, and it will take some massive improvements for us to return  Ive also emailed but no reply

Very dissapointed. Other than the EV chargers being pretty much useless on arrival I checked into a room which I paid extra for (looked nothing like the booking images), small, dated and tired looking. The food was by far the telling point that this hotel is punching above it’s weight. I ordered the king prawns for starter which was servered in a cerial bowl in a puddle of oil; prawns just lying in the bottom the oil. No effort what so ever was made on presentation; surely that’s the basics of good food; at least make it look good. I Ordered the rosemary chicken, one bite and sent the lot back; undercooked, horrible taste, looked like a plate of mutton. The photo’s attached are my proof. Book some other place people and save your money and disappointment.. mutton dressed as lamb springs to mind.

I visited with my husband and 2 children aged 7 and 10 on a weekend. I was a little apprehensive because of some reviews I read, but I needn't have been. The drive in: it felt nice to drive up a tree lined road with grass either side, as though we were entering a country park! Parking: plenty. Reception: polite and helpful, nice welcoming smiles on their faces. Finding our room: the hotel feels big inside, and there is a warren of corridors, but not unusual for a hotel of it's style and age. The room: better than we expected. It was clean and welcoming, with dual aspect windows. We could see the treetops out of our windows, and plenty of wildlife up there! The beds were comfy, we were impressed by the complimentary chocolates and crisps and cans of pop for our children. It was so quiet in our room (407), we could barely hear anyone walking around, which meant we slept well, too! Some other reviewers complained about decor, if I was to criticise anything, it would be that the bath panel was looking worse for wear, and the fan didn't seem to work in the bathroom (I didn't find a second switch so maybe that was just me?), but it was nothing I felt the need to get upset about when everything else was so good. It was definitely value for money. We decided to order food in, and the hotel happily provided us with some wine glasses for a tipple in our room. Gym: honestly, the best hotel gym I've ever seen! Loads of machines, weights, bikes, rowers, etc. Great. Pool: warm! Didn't get in the jacuzzi, went at the kids hour due to being there with my kids. They loved it. It's not a massive pool, but definitely a lovely area. It was clean. It would be nice if the steam room perhaps had some essential oils going in there. Sauna was great. Grounds: lovely. We loved the mini golf. You can borrow everything at reception at bo extra cost in order to have a play. Didn't get round to table tennis! Breakfast: excellent for choice and standards. There were gluten free and vegan options. Whilst I was waiting for fried eggs, the person who brought them out said "sorry for your wait", but I'd barely had to wait at all. Just very good customer service. Staff: everyone we encountered were professional and polite. Everyone from front of house to the cleaners who happily showed me a few rooms for comparison for future visits! The cleaners were definitely proud of the rooms 🙂 Price: honestly, I got a great price, booking direct. So good I was sure there would be something wrong with this hotel, but it exceeded our expectations and we would definitely recommend to families, and we will definitely return should we be up north again.
