Hôtel Eliova le Chaix

Just back from our week long trip and we are really going to miss this place!! We booked it as wanted good value and had done research into accommodation locations in comparison to slopes and we were thrilled with our choice. Yes it is 'basic' in regards to facilities but it was perfect for us. Lovely big room with loads of storage - firm beds (which we like) and a massive balcony with full sized windows so we could soak up the view. Breakfast was provided each day with a selection of sweet and savory bakery items, meats, cheeses, yogurts, fruit salad and boiled eggs. I would've loved some veg such as tomatoes or cucumber to have been included too - but that might just be me that likes a bit of salad with a continental breakfast. Coffee machine was great too. Evening meals were great - proper homecooked rather than fancy, but we enjoyed every single one - and it was absolutely brilliant that they catered to my gluten free, egg free and dairy free diet - as I know that it's not easy to do so. We loved the staff and looked forward to heading up for a pre dinner drink in the little bar area. It is a hotel that caters for big groups too so bear that in mind as breakfast was a bit busy first thing, but not a real negative. The group we had were a lot of fun and greater us every morning and night (despite the language barrier)! Ski room was basic but functional woth each room being allocated a locker - and the best thing of all was that you literally walked out across the road and you were on the Rif Nell green slope!! You could then ski down to the Rif Nell Express, Romains and Marmottes lifts to crack on and start the day. Only slight negative was that the whole hotel including the room was really hot and not controllable. We slept with the balcony door open most nights. And it was t shirts/vest tops in the restaurant - especially when the sun was coming in. We will definitely be back to Alpe d'Huez and can't imagine staying anywhere else - walkable to the bars in the town and a Carrefour was about 3 mins away.

This hotel really made our skiing trip. The staff were all really friendly and humoured my poor attempts at French. The rooms and other facilities were well above our expectations for the price, particularly compared to another hotel in the same resort that we have stayed at previously. The food is a set menu, which may not suit restricted diets but it was excellent quality and we enjoyed all 3 courses every evening. They also offer an alternative if needed. The best point of all is the location and views of the pistes, particularly when sunbathing on the balcony after a hard day’s skiing.

Short summer stay for L’Etape. Lovely hotel at the northern end of Alpe d’Huez. Quite basic rooms with no tea/coffee in the room and clearly aimed at the ski season as the bar and restaurant were not open in July when we visited. Staff are very friendly and breakfast was good quality and varied options. There are only a few parking spaces outside the hotel but plenty of free parking on the street and other parts of town. Lovely town with real character and friendly people in shops and restaurants, of which there were plenty to choose from.

Very convenient, friendly staff, good value

We stayed at Le Chaix as a family of six for a week. We booked through Crystal Ski. The hotel reception left a bit to be desired, but you dont spend much time there. We were too early to check in, so we left our bags in the luggage room and went to collect our skies and have a look around. Three twin rooms for the six of us, all of which were on the third floor with huge balconies overlooking the slopes. The rooms appear to have recently been refurbished with plenty of storage and a separate shower room and toilet. Very comfortable. Dinner varied each night, and sometimes there was a children's option. The food was OK, always plentiful. Sadly no free drinks, only water. Breakfast was a buffet - the pancake station being a huge hit! The staff at the hotel were fabulous - Benji and the lady with the curly black hair (sorry we didn't get your name)! made our holiday really special. The hotel is located right on the slopes - you literally walk across the road to the nursery slope. Perfect location. The location was really quiet. We all agreed that we'd return 👍

Je ne comprends pas les avis négatifs. Hôtel très bien situé, au pied des pistes. Petit déjeuner copieux, varié et renouvelé. Dîner simple (pas gastro) mais délicieux et en quantité suffisante après une journée de ski. Ma fille de 12 ans et moi sommes très contentes de notre séjour. Et le personnel est charmant et souriant. Je recommande.
