Qambathi Mountain Lodge

From the minute you arrive you are spoiled…a glass of champagne while everything is explained…then shown to your huge room filled with sunshine..with a huge comfy bed and the resident cat that comes in for a cuddle…sunbirds jumping around in the bushes…heaven! Then it’s dinner time…Cindy is a star…everything was delicious! Beautifully presented! Fires in the background…60’s music playing… Next morning…breakfast was delicious…delicious! We had horses grazing at the front entrance..springbok and bushbuck grazing across the field.. Wish we had stayed an extra night..we could have gone for a walk …

If a stay at the stunning Qambathi Mountain Lodge in the beautiful Dragensberg (just south of Durban) is not on your travel list, it should be. The place is not easy to get to but it is so worth it. Just ask Tom Cruise….. not name dropping If you are looking to relax, get spoiled and being pampered, this is your place. The surroundings are breathtaking and transporting you into instant “calm” The horses are freely grassing around the lodge. But not just the horses but also the zebras. Yes, you heard me right. If you are looking also for an exceptional dining experience, you are at the right place. The chef of phenomenal and her 6 course dinner is award winning. I could barely make it past the 5 course but how could I turn down her fig malva pudding…. The breakfast was another fabulous dining experience…. The spa was also fabulous… The villas are bright, simple, but so comfortable. Nothing beats the view from your dreamy bed. Go for a hike or a stroll along the stream or go horseback riding or just relax by the pool on the deck and have Sia make you one of his famous cocktails. The resident cat “Miss Kitty” will visit with you and make you love her, even if you’re not a cat person like me…lol

In my many years of travelling, I have never received the outstanding level of service and kindness that I did at Qambathi. Nothing, absolutely nothing, was too much trouble. Frequent changes of mind by us were dealt with patience and efficiency. Thank you, Stephen, for picking us up and returning us to Durban and taking us on our adventures to Lesotho and Rourke’s Drift. You were such great company. If customer service was exceptional then the rest of the package came pretty close. The hotel is set in a beautiful location with a range of animals wandering around, apparently, freely. The rooms are large, extremely comfortable, well designed and have all the things you would expect in a world-class (except a TV thank goodness). Nadia’s expert taste is clearly displayed in the choice of furnishings throughout the Lodge. As previous reviewers have stated the food and service are of a very high standard with the love of what they are doing coming across very visibly in the faces of the charming and efficient staff. Words that come to mind about Qambathi are delightful, tranquil, restful, escape, efficient, kind and peaceful. Stephen and Nadia are the most wonderful caring hosts. We cannot recommend this piece of paradise too highly. Book and find yourself. By the way, the roads are fine now.

Lovée au cœur d’une forêt dans la vallée cet endroit est un havre de tranquillité et de sérénité. On y croise dans le jardin des chevaux, des zèbres et des impalas. La maison est magnifiquement décorée et les chambres très confortables. Tout est parfait y compris la literie chauffante pour les soirs un peu froids. Il est quasiment impossible de dîner ailleurs mais les repas sont vraiment délicieux. Petit déjeuner pantagruélique et personnel très attentionné. Un endroit idéal pour visiter le Kramberg Rock Park mais très reculé et très difficile d’accès en raison d’une route défectueuse qui se transforme en piste Il faut être patient et ne surtout pas arriver de nuit.

We had a lovely stay here. Nice room with great views. We enjoyed the wine and the dinners. Great to see the zebras and impala so close. The staff were very friendly and hospitable. Arranged a great tour to the Sani Pass for us. So quiet and relaxing

Nadia and Stephen own this unique luxury boutique Lodge nestled in the valley of the Kamberg. It’s home away from home and their dedicated professional team go the extra mile in every way. The cuisine offered was mouthwatering and tasty. We were sorry to leave and will definitely be back.
