The trains are part of the charm, magic, and identity of the Douro Valley — they gently follow the river’s path and add a picturesque touch to the landscape. They pass by the house at fairly spaced intervals, causing some momentary noise and vibration. The first train passes at 6:00 a.m. and the last one close to midnight.2) The house does not have air conditioning. Heating is provided by the fireplace and a wood-burning stove in the common areas, and by portable heaters in the bedrooms.
