Lake Lodge Boutique Hotel Kandalama

I had high hopes for the food at this hotel, but it ended up being one of the worst parts of my stay. I ordered from the restaurant menu and was incredibly disappointed. The pasta was overcooked and swimming in a watery, flavorless sauce. The chicken dish I tried the next night was dry and clearly reheated — not something you’d expect from a so-called “Luxury boutique” hotel restaurant. Even the presentation looked rushed and unappetizing. To make matters worse, the food took forever to arrive, and the staff didn’t seem particularly bothered. For the price, I expected much higher quality. Save your money and eat elsewhere.

We stayed here for 2 nights whilst visiting Sigiriya (Lion Rock), Poloonaruwa and Dambulla (Temple Caves) This 12 room luxury resort is located near the shores of Lake Kandalama, near Dambulla and is well located to visit other attractions in the region including those I mentioned above. We were personally greeted by the owner Michel and his Manager on arrival and check-in procedures were conducted pool side overlooking the lake whilst sipping our welcome drink. The rooms are large, spotlessly clean and well equipped with everything you could possibly want or need. This hotel is all about service. Everything is anticipated by the staff. Drinks and snacks appear as soon as you settle by the pool, rooms are tidied and clean the minute you step out the door, the waiter appears to take your order as soon as you look up and a staff member appears like magic with a torch to light your way back to your room after your meal. Please, please do eat at the restaurant as it is like having your own personal chef. We ate at some great restaurants in The Galle Face in Colombo, The Grand Hotel in Nuwara Eliya and the Marriot Hotel at Weligama Beach but for us the three meals we had at the Lake Lodge were the best we had in our 18 days in Sri Lanka. We would also rate our stay here as the most enjoyable.

We stayed in 6 hotels during our 15 day holiday in Sri Lanka and I would rate this as joint best of those we stayed in (along with the Langdale in Nuwara Eliya). We stayed 3 nights at the Lake Lodge in a very comfortable room and dined outside by the pool for breakfast and dinner each day. Both the food and service were excellent.

We had a beautiful experience staying at the lake lodge boutique hotel. It was our second hotel in Sri Lanka and definitly an amazing experience. The hotel is beautiful, the staff is very kind and professional and the food is delicious. Thank you to Michel and his team for the warm welcome

We had a three night stay on our Sri Lanka tour and Lake Lodge is an excellent base from which to explore the cultural highlights of this region. We were warmly greeted by Michel and his team and they really looked after us during our stay - nothing was too much trouble. Our room was well equipped and spotless. An afternoon beside the pool after climbing Sigiriya was a delight as were the cocktails! The food was excellent , a good choice, well prepared and beautifully served. Thank you for a wonderful stay.
