Hotel Barbarahof 4 Stars Superior - Adults Only "soft" from 10 Years - Skibus-Stop

Spotless hotel with very friendly staff. Spacious room with masses of storage and shower over bath. At breakfast, you're asked to choose an evening main course (choice of 3). In the evening, good choice of buffet starters and desserts. The only minor criticism is that there are no afternoon cakes when returning from skiing. The frequent ski buses stop right outside - never busy. But we paid for the fabulous heated ski lockers at the base of the Maiskogel (MK) and usually walked (no skis or boots to carry!) - a pleasant 7-8 mins mostly alongside the river. Would have skiied for one day in Zell (15 mins by bus) but slushy snow on lower slopes meant that the conditions in Kaprun were much better. We didn't ski much in the MK area and always went to the glacier first. Quite a few lifts to get there (2,500m+) but snow was great. Pistes on the glacier were busy - as a lot of people were travelling from Zell for the better snow. But only occasional lift queues - worst was 8 mins. Not a huge choice of lunch venues on the glacier but the massive Alpin Center restaurant was very efficient and it was always easy to find a table. Don't miss going to the Brundl flagship shop, 100m from the hotel. The world's most amazing ski shop over 5 floors with a rooftop restaurant and glass walkway. Stunning architecture.

Very nice hotel. Quiet, peaceful and very comfortable. The staff were friendly and professional. It is spotlessly clean and well maintained. We stayed for one week for a family skiing holiday - would recommend. One improvement might be to take time to explain to guests what is in offer in the hotel and the region.

This was our second ski holiday in Austria and our first in Alpbach was excellent. We were certainly not disappointed with any aspect of our stay un the Hotel Barbarahof. I had read previous reviews and understand why previous customers rate the hotel so highly. The staff are very friendly and ensure your stay is a pleasant one. Like other guests we were late arrivals, but ushered straight to the restaurant for food. I had the biggest schnitzel I have seen, basically covering the plate. The four main staff in the restaurant were excellent (apologies for not getting their names). The choice at breakfast is excellent and as we were half board the options for dinner are superb. An array of breads and spreads, a soup dish, a selection of salad options then a choice of dishes for a main course. Generally one meat option, a fish dish or a vegetarian dish. This was then followed by a dessert, cheeseboard and chutney's, ice cream and a choice of candy/sweets (for the big kids). The bar area is very relaxing and has a great atmosphere. Also if you need to unwind, the Spa/Pool area is ideal. The location of the Hotel is also ideal for getting to the slopes, as the bus stop is right outside. A big thank you to the Mariacher family and especially there team. We hope to see you again in the future.

We stayed the week over new year at this hotel and loved every minute. The experience started as soon as we stepped into the hotel and greeted by Laura - so friendly, helpful and efficient. The reception area is bright and incredibly tastefully decorated. From reception you have access to the boot room to store skis and boots - a perfectly heated room to keep equipment dry and warm. Our room was lovely, with great views to the front and back of the hotel and mountains. It was kept clean and tidy for us on a daily basis and was so comfortable - maybe a little too warm but tilting the patio door solved that problem. The spa is a perfect place to unwind at the end of the day. We loved going into the swimming pool, steam room and nodding off on the water beds for a few minutes to recharge our batteries. Again, this area is perfectly clean and tastefully decorated to help you relax with ample towels, fresh water, apples and fruit tea. Dominic’s bar quickly became part of our routine every evening - you must try his negroni! This finally brings me to the food! Whoever their chefs are, they need to do everything they can to keep them. All food; both breakfast and evening meal is so tasty. The choices are excellent and varied and each meal was something we looked forward to every day. Being there over New Year’s Eve we were treated to a lovely gala dinner - the staff made the evening so very special. This is a very special hotel in a beautiful village in a great location.

Worst experience ever. And we have traveled a lot. There is nothing “superior” about this hotel. Adults only should have been a dead give away. People who do not like kids are generally not nice people. And this goes for the management and staff in this hotel. That is: if you can find them. We checked in and checked out and in between we never saw anyone at the front desk. When checking out the ONLY question asked was: did you have anything from the minibar? Not: did you enjoy your stay or anything. They do not seem to understand the most fundamental things about the hospitality business. For starters: they are not very hospitable and we did not feel welcomed. As said there are no people around to make you feel welcome. Not many guest either. The hotel is pretentious but has absolutely nothing to stand up to it. New Years evening dinner (€ 100,- pp) was extremely disappointing. Like it was cooked by an intern. Loud live music by a local singer who sang the same song the entire evening. Well, they were different songs but he sang them all like it was the same song. We left early with a splitting headache. Next day when we wanted to go skiing early (7:45) the restaurant was still closed (our booking included breakfast). We wanted to charge our car. A hybrid with a 25 mile range in electric. Normally this costs us less than € 2,- The hotel charges € 15,- because electricity “is expensive in Austria”. Right. This was our first trip to Kaprun and we were misled but the hotel’s self promotion. Our bad. During our stay we saw dozens of hotels that looked nicer and were actually cheaper. This place is one to avoid. Take our word for it.

I was due to stay at the Alpine Superior Hotel Barbarahof on the 27th of December 2020. Unfortunately I got COVID a few days prior to travelling and was unable to make the trip due to travel restrictions. I contacted the hotel, the week before I was due to arrive, to see if they could reschedule the booking to the end of Mach 2022. The hotel declined to reschedule the booking and said that they could not offer me a refund either. I have been trying to contact the hotel since but they have ignored my calls and emails. I have never dealt with such unreasonable people and I would warn anyone who is going to stay here that you do so at your own peril. Under Austrian law, the hotel are legally obliged to offer a refund, however, these people dont seem to think the law applies to them.
