Burnbrae is a peaceful rural, haven situated 3 miles from the pretty town of Kelso in the Scottish Borders. Mungo's Well is an ideal destination for a mini-break or longer, for singles, couples or friends who can request in advance that the 6 ft double bed be arranged as twin beds. We have Wi-Fi via fibre (FTTP) available throughout the site. There are many local walks and cycle routes. Or sit and relax while admiring the wonderful rural views and amazing birds. We have a pair of barn owls and their young, at least 2 families of woodpeckers, house martins, siskins, herons and sparrows living on site for you to observe.Mungos Well self-catering cottage has a wood-burning stove to ward off the chill and is a fabulous feature to return to after a day exploring the many historic Abbeys and houses and gardens of the local Border towns. The property is all on one level with easy, level access to and from the car park. The views from the south-facing conservatory, over the shared cottage garden and Eden water to the Cheviot Hills are wonderful and you have access to the surrounding fields and riverside from your cottage door. A welcome tray with home baking is waiting for your arrival.Mungo’s Well Cottage has a well-equipped kitchen, living room with a dining area, (dining table, chairs & crockery for 4 people). The living room has comfy seating for 3, SMART TV, mini Hi-Fi with CD player.The clean bright bathroom has a shower over the bath and lots of hot water from our bio-mass boiler. There is a laundry room and a secure cycle, fishing and golf equipment store for which you can have a key. We are located within 40 minutes drive of Edinburgh and the east coast fishing villages, superb coastal scenery, Border towns, Cheviot and Ettrick Hills. Ideal for visiting the many abbeys, gardens and stately homes (Floors Castle and Mellerstain House & gardens nearby). This is an ideal area for those who enjoy walking and cycling with secure bike storage and a heated drying cupboard in each cottage. Not only are there some lovely short walks within Burnbrae but there are also walks that start directly from the site with a wide choice of walking to suit all levels, where you can take in the spectacular scenery. Cycling is a particular pleasure with a good network of quiet lanes around Burnbrae. In the hills, there are plenty of tracks and the Glentress Forest provides extensive cycle tracks which are separate from the walking paths (mountain bikes can be hired at the main entrance to the forest). Horse riding is a very popular past time in the Scottish Borders, as is fishing and golf, with numerous courses within easy reach of Burnbrae. There is a riding stables next door. The Scottish Borders also has a wealth of culture and history and many beautiful gardens and historic properties to visit. Floors Castle and Mellerstain House and Kelso racecourse are only 3 miles away.
