Room 213 Pros: 1. Magnificent ocean view, framed by coconut trees 2. Nicely decorated main room - ownership has good taste. 3. Fold out bed can sleep 2. 4. Located directly on the golden sand beach. 5. Nice flooring in main room amd kitchen. 6. Ownership provided coffee ☕️ and kukui nut leis. 7. Full kitchen, w plates amd cutlery. 8. Away from the high - traffic area of Kihei 9. Dinah's sandwiches is steps away 10. Chase lounges on lanai. 11. Small waterfall by pool good for photo background 12. Activity store on property. Cons: 1. Beach ⛱️ water not clear, but sandy from mountain runoff. Kam beaches are better. 2. Shower difficult - often I spent 5 mins wasting water trying to calibrate just right for warm water. 3. Mattress needs replacement. 4. Old, small shower. 5. Bedroom carpet needed replacing years ago. 6. Chaise lounges on grass lanai, but not on beach. Summary: I will likely stay here again as I love staying on the beach. [Rental via Vacasa - Hawaiian Air offered a room which had no beach view.] The accommodations aren't the Four Seasons, but nor does it have that expensive price.

I think this resort can be a bit hit and miss. The location was absolutely spectacular but the particular apartment we stayed in was rather dated, not very clean and I think a lot of people would have complained about it. I hadn't understood that the apartments are "owned" by people and let out as holiday rentals by companies when they're not there - I assume some sort of timeshare arrangement - and so you can either get something absolutely great or something mediocre. We didn't luck out unfortunately, with mildew and scale around the shower tray in the bathroom, along with really dusty AC and no cleaning products available to use. The dishwasher also didn't work. In the welcome book, it states that it's been given a thorough clean (which I doubt) and that any cleaning products aside from laundry detergent, dish soap and dishwasher tablets are a guest's responsibility. I was reluctant to spend more money on cleaning products for a week, especially considering they'd go to waste. However, the positives were having a nice balcony (lanai) with an amazing view, a washing machine and dryer, good wifi and free parking! The location was also great - you're not far from Kihei or Kahului and there are plenty of food and shopping options in both of those. The pool looked nice although we didn't use it and the resort itself was quiet and right on the beachfront.

Beautiful views of the ocean from our lanai. Our condo was clean, well supplied, beautifully decorated, and quiet. We liked being away from most of the crowds in Kihei. Yes, it was very windy but it was oceanfront with the beach just past the pool area. The winds did pick up each afternoon but we still enjoyed the pool and hot tub with views of the beach. The pool was never crowded and there were an abundance of pool chairs. It is not suitable for swimming but was perfect for us. I love the sights and sounds of the ocean but my husband can’t be out in the heat of the day. We are older(67) and both have health issues. I loved being able to see and hear the waves from the lanai. Our unit was shaded during the afternoon so I spent many afternoons reading and listening to the waves.

Highy recommended Very nice, clean, quiet , and well equipped. Close to many good places. Very friendly staff.

Loved the fully stocked kitchen and amenities available. It was a delightful stay! We would stay here again.

Hello fellow Maui Travelers, Wanting to share our recent experience which was disheartening. We booked with VRBO Sugar Beach Resort, unit 134 Maui, Hawaii. This unit was managed by Vacasa. My husband and myself recently spent a month at Sugar Beach Resort. My family has stayed in different units always at Sugar Beach Resort many times, 28 to be exact over the years. We had our first unpleasant experience on this beautiful Island at our favorite resort. Unit # 134 was well equipped, the community bar b q grills were well kept, cleaned daily and we used them frequently and the miles of white sandy beach to walk daily is why we have always stayed there. We booked while we were in Maui last year through Vacasa/ VRBO. While we love the location and the beautiful beach in front and being ground level is amazing, the condo itself had a few issues. The screen door that leads to the ocean was broken laying off the tracks when we arrived, there was 3 areas of the living room ceiling that had paint peeling and handing down, also had cracks running through the ceiling from side to side, the patio door curtains to the beach were extremely filthy, the dryer put so much lint into the shower even with the vent running as per the instructions you had to wash down the wall before showering, and the bathroom sink was clogged leaving it unusable most of the time. We made 3 phone calls to Vacasa’s help/ support desk, 3 visits to the office at Sugar Beach where the ladies were shocked each time for lack of reply. The Sugar beach office asked us for pictures in an email which we did. During our 30 days we were there, not a phone call or visit from anyone at Vacasa to help with the issues. Most of the issues could have been resolved in a day. We understand it is expensive to rent in Maui and that Sugar Beach is an older complex, that doesn’t excuse the lack of response from Vacasa. 3 weeks have passed since we came home and still not response from Vacasa. I have also not found our review of our trip posted as of yet, warning others of the issues. Please know we love Maui, but the experience was not as we had expected during our month stay at Sugar Beach Resort. Mahalo! — feeling sad.
