The Last Frontier Boutique Resort

Buscábamos un forma cómoda y fácil de descubrir esta parte del Borneo Malayo y leí una reseña muy buena sobre este lugar así que me puse en contacto con ellos para contratar un paquete de 3 días / 2 noches en su alojamiento sobre el Rio Kinabatangan; desde el primer momento fueron muy amables con nosotros, la comunicación muy fluida y el sitio es simplemente espectacular, si te gusta estar inmerso en plena naturaleza, nos asignaron una habitación con cama supletoria para alojarnos los tres muy comodamente,es cierto que para acceder al alojamiento hay que subir 600 escaleras pero la segunda vez que haces el trayecto ya no es tan costoso, además puedes avistar algún orangután salvaje que vive por la zona como nos pasó cuando llegamos. Son 5 cabañas muy acogedoras y limpias y está todo super bien organizado, te recogen desde el aeropuerto o la ciudad de Sandakan y el pack te incluye: la comida, el alojamiento y los tours; sales en barca por el Río para avistar fauna y la verdad que ves muchos animales, monos de diferentes especies, también narigudos tan difíciles de ver, cocodrilos, hornbills, varanos e incluso orangutanes. Otro día hicimos un treking por la jungla , el guía que te acompaña en las excursiones es muy bueno también. La comida es espectacular, platos muy abundantes y bien cocinados, tuvieron un detalle con mi hija en uno de los postres que le hizo mucha ilusión. A parte de la paz que se respira en su hotel agradecemos mucho todos los consejos que nos dió Gert sobre Sandakan cuando nos acercó al centro de orangutanes de Sepilok al final de nuestra experiencia. Sin duda es uno de los lugares que más recordaremos de nuestro viaje por Malasia. Muy recomendable.

Truly a five star stay. From the pickup, to the food, to the animal sightings, and the recommendations for our trip afterwards. Jason, Ryan and the team could not have done more for us and we left feeling we had discovered a hidden gem. Ryan was fantastic at seeking out the wildlife - leading to us seeing the Borneo Big 5 (and an elephant crossing the river). Jason was spectacular at attending to different dietary needs, helping us sort out a local SIM card, and ensuring we had a good plan for when we left the resort. The room was clean and comfortable and the steps weren’t as bad as we had thought (especially if you just take a backpack up). An experience we will never forget - thank you for such a wonderful stay!

Wow! We had an amazing experience with Gert, Ryan and the team. From initial email contact to being dropped off at the airport at the end of our trip, the customer service was excellent. Last Frontier is a small resort - only 4 rooms and is definitely in the heart of the jungle rainforest. The meals were delicious - not fine dining, but good quality bistro level food with a mix of Asian and Western served during our stay. Of course, the main events are the river cruises and jungle walk. Ryan managed to find all the Borneo Big 5 as well as numerous other animals and birds during our time there. Our cameras were shooting regularly. We couldn’t recommend Gert and team more highly.
