Ffolkes Arms Hotel

Splurged on a spa cabin for Hubby's birthday. It was the perfect time( heatwave) for a hot tub, and air-con in the bedroom. I got the birthday package and they put balloons, mini cakes, a card and a banner up. It was so peaceful overlooking the field. We saw the white deer and watched the hares playing. This was our 5th visit and its so reassuring to see familiar faces working there. Breakfast and feasts great as always. Great range of cocktails too.

This was a repeat visit to The Folkes and it just keeps improving - and I thought it was 5* the last time! It’s a beautiful place, the rooms are unique and super comfortable, spotlessly clean. But more than anything it’s the outstanding staff that give this place the edge. What a great team of people working there, nothing is too much trouble, really welcoming and friendly. Can’t wait to go back, next time I plan to sample the newly opened spa!

I really wanted to love it but sadly had a not so great experience. I booked a nights stay for my partners birthday, it was a special birthday so I was really hoping for a nice experience and was recommended by a few people. When first arriving there is A LOT of building going on, I believe they are building a new spa but I feel like a heads up on the situation would have been nice. The work was very noisy but it wasn’t anywhere near our room and didn’t disturb us once we were in our room. Check in was smooth and the staff at reception were very pleasant, they confirmed our dinner reservation and gave us the key to our room. I had been recommended a spa room but as I booked late this was not available so instead booked a courtyard room. I paid an additional £15 for a birthday package. The room was fine. It was clean and well stocked. We had an outside bath, so did our neighbours. The rooms are VERY close and although you can’t see over the walls you can hear pretty much everything. It didn’t seem that busy so was a shame we were so close. Inside the room was a smart TV with instructions to connect your phone to play music, I tried and couldn’t get it to work so decided to just use the TV as it is. This is where I discovered that the tv had a full search history, saved and easily accessible - full of porn. We laughed at the time but coming away from the situation I reflected on what could have happened had a child been the one to find it. I did contact the hotel about this after leaving and have been assured that housekeeping will be checking this from now on but I would be wary if I were taking children and definitely check the tv first. The £15 birthday package consisted of 4 regular balloons, a “happy birthday” banner on the bed, two mini cakes (although I don’t know if they are provided as standard) and a birthday card which had been in an envelope but the envelope was open and laying next to it. If you’re going for a birthday I wouldn’t bother adding the package. We ate in the restaurant which was very casual. Our food wasn’t great, it was all a bit bland and not very enjoyable but also there was nothing actually wrong with it so not worth sending back or saying anything. The cocktails also weren’t to our taste. The breakfast was lovely. Easily the best part of the stay with really good options available for everyone, good drink choices and everything was fresh. Upon checking out I wasn’t able to speak to any staff to raise concerns so I waited until I got home and sent an email. I was offered money off a future stay but honestly after already spending a small fortune on a disappointing stay and dinner I definitely won’t be spending more money to go back.

Tasty Food, Friendly Staff, Generous Space Friendly team members. Delicious breakfast. Ffolkes breakfast tastes delicious and is generous. I also enjoyed the dinner there and there are many choices because menu changes everyday. Room is spacious and comfortable. The location is convenient for visiting nearby tourist sites.

Although we can’t fault the meal, staff and ambiance of The Fflokes and would probably visit again. I was a little disappointed in the room for the price you pay! Gurgling toilet after every flush, coffee pods that didn’t work, sugar sachets that had either got wet or were old so you couldn’t get the sugar out, a mediocre hairdryer and a remote control that only work after a few pushes of the button! The mirror above the dressing table was too high to use when sat down But the shower was amazing and you could change the temp of room using the remote!

Nice rooms, beds very comfy, a bit dark but that’s fine, bathrooms large. Staff friendly.
