Yvonne's Hotel

The exterior shots oft the buildung shown here on tripadvisor are definitely more than 10 years old. I assume that no restoration work has been carried out on the building since then. When I got out of the taxi and saw the facade of the buildung i was shocked. The sight of the car which must have been been parked in the hotel car park for several years, confirmed my initial negative thoughts about this place. The room was small and equipped with the most basic furniture. The bathroom was in a bad condition and small ants kept coming in through holes. The only toiletries were two bars of soap. There were also ants on the balcony and i am sure, it had not been cleaned for a very long time. My intension was to leave this place as soon as possible, but i had no choice. Other hotels in Pohnpei were fully booked and so i stayed for five days. After four days the bed was made and the room was cleaned for the first time. There was no safe and my valuables were unsecured in the room, but nothing was stolen. WiFi was working fine. The Manager (Jason?) seemed friendly and it was easy to talk to him about general topics. However, if you asked him for a favour he was no longer the friendly man. For example, when i wanted to wash a few things i asked for detergent, which i wanted to buy from him. He declined and told me to go the next shop. Strange, at the same time the cleaning staff were busy in the laundry room, he could have told them to give me some.
