Suleima Lodge

This was my first visit to Gambia and staying at the beautiful & tranquil Suleima Lodge was absolutely amazing, great hosts with cool & spacious rooms. Lots of time chilling by the lovely pool and wondering around the grounds. The wonderful bird life blew me away. Very close to a beautiful beach too! What more could you ask for? We are already planning a revisit to Suleima Lodge in the near future.

My stay at Suleima Lodge was characterised by the extremely friendly staff and a most relaxing athmosphere. Staying there was providing a calm environment (for work and leasure alike, including a stable wireless internet). The food was excellent, apart from a varied international cuisine I can highly recommend the local dishes (e.g. Domoda), the cook and her food need special mention! The pool is extraordinary in size and cleanliness, the fireplace in the evening invites for a chilled Gin & Tonic. The location of the Lodge is a leasurely 5 min walk from the beach, which provides the perfect sunset and either a great bath in the waves or a stroll aloing the beach, being left alone by the locals (something not so common in teh touristic bach areas). The lodge is ecofriendly, the owners have a big heart for birdwatching, and the place is filled with beautiful and sometimes rare birds. Birdwatching tours can be arranged at the lodge. I particularly enjoyed the airport pick up service of the lodge staff, reliable and friendly.

We spent half term at Suleima Lodge with our two boys (7 and 12). The whole family had an amazing time. The pool is huge and has a shallower bit, perfect for our youngest. The rooms were tastefully decorated and comfortable - hot showers, mosquito net, AC, fans, clean linen, room cleaning etc. The grounds are rich with exotic bird life and full of shade. The children enjoyed playing ball games, or reading in the many hammocks, when not on day trips or swimming in the pool. Betty and Paul organised several day trips for us, including fishing in the open waters and in the mangroves, bird watching on the Senegalese border, or enjoying touristic outings in the capital (like seeing the crocodiles of Kachikali). Suleima Lodge is a short walk from the beach and there is a nearby beach bar where you can have a cool drink and lie on a shaded beach bed. To top this all off, we had such amazingly fresh and delicious meals at the lodge: butterfish carpaccio, grilled lobster, cooked mangrove oysters... and be sure to ask for Paul's green Papaya salad! The staff were helpful and friendly. We'd definitely recommend a stay at Suleima Lodge and hope to come again.

We stayed at Suliema Lodge for 10 days and had the best time here and would definitely recommend staying here. We couldn’t thank the hosts Paul and Betty enough for their hospitality throughout our stay. From arranging our pick up via private driver and helping assist us with our excursions to see the beautiful Gambia. The Lodge we stayed in was very well maintained daily, modern, well decorated highlighting the Gambian feel- wifi and AC was also a bonus ! The staff were also friendly and also at hand for all our needs as we were travelling with a baby. An extra bonus would be the additional guests you may see around the lodge such as the monkeys, birds and lizards. We would definitely recommend staying at Suliema to anybody visiting The Gambia and we really can’t wait to coming back ! Thank you again
