Thornton House B&B

My wife and I had a terrific stay at Thornton House. The house is in a nice location between the Main St area and Mount Hosmer Lookout and Park. We enjoyed shopping at Horsfall's Variety Store (if they don't have what you're looking for, you really don't need it!) and the other shops downtown. The food in town wasn't anything special, but Frank's breakfasts at the B&B were very tasty and filling. Also, a thanks to the lady at Skinny Dip who served us some creamy ice cream to take back to the B&B. On our middle day, we made a short and scenic drive up to La Crosse, WI where we took a ride on The La Crosse Queen paddle wheel boat, then had a nice bike ride before having a surprisingly good pizza for dinner at Big Al's. Special mention for Mount Hosmer Park. The view of the Mississippi River from the lookout point is beautiful, the monuments to the local veterans very thoughtful, and the walking trails were challenging for a couple aging Boomers. We highly recommend a stay at Thornton House!

I can’t say enough about the Thornton House B&B and our host Frank. I was surprised by my significant other with a stay at Thornton House this past weekend. It was so incredible! We had the Grand Room and I’m going to encourage you, if it’s available, BOOK IT! Not only is the room absolutely beautiful, but you also have your own private screened in porch fitted with a wonderful porch swing. Frank has also provided a checkerboard and Chinese checkers if you need to take a break from your regular busy life. You also have the use of the front parlor for reading and/or just relaxing while taking in the most amazing décor. A set of beautiful French doors open from your bedroom to the parlor and the front entrance can be closed to make the room into a suite for the evening hours. Frank is such a gracious host, explaining the history of the house over the past 100+ years. The breakfast he served was beyond amazing, too! I have a restrictive diet and he went out of his way to make me a special meal for breakfast, as I couldn’t enjoy his amazing stuffed French Toast. I can tell you; it smelled so good I was very tempted to throw caution to the wind and try it. I live and work in downtown Chicago, right in the heart of the loop. With the hundreds of hotels right at my fingertips at any given time, I’d choose visiting Frank over all of them again and again. The entire experience he provides will leave you with memories that you won’t soon forget. I can assure you; we will visit again and catch the leaves changing this fall. It is truly an amazing experience.

We stayed at Thornton House for two nights in May 2022. It is beautifully furnished and rooms are very clean and comfortable. Frank, the Innkeeper, made us feel like family while there and was extremely helpful with info on local attractions. We especially enjoyed the great breakfasts he personally made for us. We highly recommend this place for anyone staying in the Lansing area (conveniently located near downtown Lansing). Thornton House and Frank made this a memorable and relaxing stay for us and we will be back again!

Lovely home and wonderfully furnished and decorated. Stayed in the Green Room. Very comfortable and furnished nicely. Service was excellent from check in to check out. Great breakfast! Frank very knowledgeable about the history of the house (built in 1873) as well as the community. He was welcoming and courteous. Many sites to see in town and in the area. Coffee House on the river is a must to try their delicious pastries. You have to try the Kentucky Bourbon Bundt cake. If you like pizza and craft beers try the Safe House Saloon. Very scenic part of the state.
