Druids Glen Resort

Have already stayed here 3 times before this stay but after reading the negative reviews of late we were close to cancelling this time but glad we didnt. Best stay yet. Staff are perfect and leave you to it but if you need someting there are plenty around to ask. Breakfast was excellent and food in bar top class. Chicken Supreme was the best we ever had. Also had drinks in the golf club bar which was lovely sitting out in the sun. Swimming pool, sauna, steam room all clean and no issues. Not sure what people are expecting these days and maybe its the negative views that are louder but Druids Glen is excellent value for money and we have already booked our 5th stay.

To be honest, we weren’t delighted with our experience at the Druid’s Glen spa. Myself and my mam booked in for the midweek package which is a treatment, lunch and use of the facilities. On arrival we were given robes and brought to the swimming pool changing rooms to change. When we put on our robes we discovered that one of them was ripped and the other was quite bally and old looking. From there we made our way to the relaxation room. We were sitting there for maybe 5 minutes when two maintenance workers walked in and begun fixing something in the relaxation room for some time. I am well aware that maintenance needs to be done and if things need fixing; then absolutely they should be. But. I do think some discretion should have been considered. We’re sitting there in our robes (that were ripped) relaxing and two men walk in chatting to fix something without any warning or pre-caution given to us. We felt very uncomfortable for the 15 minutes or so that they were there. Our treatments were nice- we both enjoyed our facials. Overall it just doesn’t give 5 star experience. It was a mediocre experience.

While this place is a decent enough hotel, it's by no means a 5 star hotel, 4 at best. Go down the road to Powerscourt and they'll show you what a 5 star hotel is. Came home yesterday after 2 nights there. Room was lovely. Food was fab on our first night in the garden rooms, 2nd night was OK. No flavour whatsoever from the orrichiette pasta, just pure bland. Breakfast on both mornings was just lousy. Food in the hot holds were stone cold. Said it to the manager, but it was still the same the next morning. Opted for the porridge instead, that was basically gruel. There are too many bad reviews on TripAdvisor about the breakfast, that you would think the head chefs would actually do something to correct this issue. Something this hotel is missing, between breakfast and lunch, is a coffee bar. I love a flat white or a cortado. I went looking for a coffee after breakfast had finished but there was nowhere to get one. I had asked the concierge where I could get one and he was willing to and try and get one for me, I told him it was fine because it actually sounded like hard work. That's not on him, he was lovely, I didn't want him to be going out of his way for just a coffee. All that lobby space going to waste, you'd be cleaning up with a coffee bar/menu. I had to go all the way into town just to get a decent cuppa. Booked into the spa, had a lovely guy do my treatments on me, I cannot remember his name but he was just wonderful. An absolute delight and amazing at his work. Pool was fine too, my son had a great time both mornings in it. When we were in the elevator yesterday morning heading for breakfast, it suddenly kept slamming like it was about to go into free fall. It did this 3 times and scared the living daylights out of myself and my son. Went to reception about, they didn't seem too bothered. My son for the rest of the day and since we got home has not stopped talking about how frightened he was in the lift. My son is autistic and this triggered him a great deal. Maybe in future, if something like that happens again, you go out of your way to make sure your guests are actually OK instead of saying "Oh sorry about that". I definitely would not be in a rush back.

We went down for breakfast. The manager was very brusque and dismissive, no courtesy shown and made us feel like we were being a nuisance by turning up! He showed us to a corner table that had obviously been occupied before us and hadn’t been cleaned or restocked. He went away without explaining anything about self service or tea/coffee facilities. We sat reading the menu for a while and eventually guessed that there must be a self service area as nobody came to ask if they could help us. We eventually went off to look for the service area and got our food. While there, I approached a waiter and told him that our table had no cutlery so he got us some. We then waited thirty minutes before getting tea/coffee.. which I had to summon a waitress for. We really felt like second hand citizens as everyone else who came into the dining room was treated with courtesy and everything was explained to them. The manager who had seated us at the table came around asking if everything was ok for us and I told him my concerns. He asked who had seated us and I said: You did. He said Oh, I’m sorry, and walked away. To be honest, this has made us feel uncomfortable and has basically ruined what we expected to be an enjoyable experience. We are very easy going and never expect special treatment, only to be afforded the same courtesy as everyone else. This has left us with a bad taste in our mouths. Pardon the pun!

If you are a solo traveller and want to explore some aspects of beautiful Wicklow, I highly recommend a stay at Druids Glen Golf Hotel and Spa. The staff are so attentive and kind and professional. They will do anything to make your stay a joy. The facilities are wonderful as is the surrounding scenery. There are lovely walks and drives you can take. Enjoy the surrounding area with it's lovely amenities. Make use of the gorgeous spa treatments. A big shout out to the Spa Director who looked after me amazingly well. Dine as you wish, in the Garden Bar or Hugos Restaurant. You won't be disappointed. I live locally, and I will return for a solo break again - to get away from the housework and mundaneness of life.

Myself and sister had a wonderful stay with a lovely Spa treatment, the hotel, food, and especially the staff were excellent, looking forward to our next trip
