Visited the Mill Forge yesterday. We were married here 20 years ago in June 2005 so thought it would be nice to travel back and visit again. It actually looked virtually identical to back then and it was amazing to reminisce. We popped into Reception to check it was ok to look round and were met by Sam. What a lovely girl who couldn’t have been nicer, even letting us look in the Chapel where we married before a wedding was going to begin. We took some photos at the same areas our photographer had taken them 20 years ago and Sam has asked us to send them in to her with the old ones. We stopped in the bar/restaurant for some drinks and even though we were in the Dumfries area for 2 days both said it was the best part of our trip. If you’re thinking of using the Mill Forge to have your wedding you will definitely have chosen well. Thanks Sam and all at the Mill Forge.

I stayed at The Mill Forge in Gretna for a wedding, which made it difficult to voice my concerns at the time, My experience at The Mill Forge in Gretna was regrettably disappointing. The plumbing in the room emitted a strong and unpleasant cabbage-like odor, which was difficult to ignore throughout my stay. The presence of small flies in the room added to the discomfort, suggesting a lack of proper cleanliness and maintenance. The room itself felt outdated and uninspired, with worn furnishings and limited amenities that fell short of expectations for the price. The overall atmosphere lacked warmth or charm. The bar, while accessible, was overpriced for the quality and selection it provided, leaving a sense of poor value. Additionally, the food offered was nothing remarkable—bland deep fried and unmemorable, failing to elevate the dining experience. For the cost of the stay, I anticipated a far higher standard of service and quality. Unfortunately, The Mill Forge missed the mark on several fronts and left me feeling underwhelmed.
