The Staging Post

A truly special room in converted stables; very cool design choices and great vibe. Staff were incredibly friendly and the breakfast was one of the best we've ever had in this price range.

We were charge $220 and after paying were told we could only park in the street . As we were travelling in a twin cab with spare tyres tools, etc this was not an option. After some discussion we were able to park within the motel. There was no milk , no onsite management and no access to wifi or tv stations, could only find one channel. Would not recommend for the above reasons. Overseas. visitors would love decor I am sure , but at this price would not recommend.

We have had a wonderful experience in Outback Queensland, but sadly the only disappointment of our road trip through Roma, Charleville, Winton and Longreach was The Staging Post. We chose this property for location in the heart of town. The aircon was a necessity as the room was very cold, but the roaring noise was unbearable in the room and could not sleep, when turned off, we could hear the next door neighbours air cons. The carparking is limited and we had to park the car on the street, and after 6.30pm there is no access through the reception to the front, guests need to use the back lane. The brightness in the room at night is also a factor in not being able to sleep, with outside lights and flimsy curtain/ screens, not to mention a mattress that needs replacing with a blanket that was army issue (heavy and scratchy). Our room was located beside the service access lane and laundry, so it was very noisy early morning and late at night with contractors/staff coming and going. Reception satff seemed more interested in selling tour tickets than looking after their house guests. Our accommodation experience at The Staging Post was the only negative in a very positive week in OQ.

I highly recommend the Stables in The Staging Post as a place to stay. Whilst travelling Australia with my son (and his girlfriend) and my two daughters, we stopped at Longreach to visit the QANTAS Museum (highly recommend). Whilst in Longreach, we stayed at the Staging Post. The staff were courteous and professional. The accommodation is well appointed and has a rustic theme dating to the late 1800’s early 1900’s; excellently done. Cutlery, crockery and electrical appliances are not the usual cheap store brands which is unusual for outback accommodation and adds to the overall style of the place. Whilst car parking is on the street on account of the historical transportation artefacts in the parking bays, the streets are very safe. We had no issues.

Do not accept a room out the back of the restaurant on steak night!! Very noisy and unable to sleep. They could close the doors to the restaurant but decide to cater for those willing to pay $68 a head for a meal rather than those who have booked accommodation. Make sure you are out into the stables. Very disappointing for people doing big drives who only want a good sleep.
