Al Alamein Writing this reviews is one of the hardest things as this place has its’ dear spot in our hearts. My wife and I are repeat guests and have been staying at Al Alamein hotel for quite over a decade, and we always have been happy with everything despite the high pricing, which we didn’t mind as we were getting a high end service so the quality matched the pricing, kinda. Not sure what happened recently, but the whole place feels different in a very strange and sad way. The atmosphere feels different and gloomy, and we don’t many smiling faces as we used to see before. Lots of mistakes, disconnect in communication, a lot of new hires who don’t meet the caliber that the hotel used to have, even some of the new resturant managers are witnessed getting frustrated easily each other verbally and also with their staff while trying to address customer complaints and order mistakes. Personally I had to wait 51 minutes to receive a simple takeaway order; a fruit platter, which normally wouldn’t take more 5-10 minutes to prepare. The second day I ordered the same, it took about 35 minutes and it came without plastic utensils, then a manager had to go search for them, never came back for another 10 minutes, so I left as I couldn’t wait any longer. Not to mention, when the manager first approached me asking what I was waiting for, I told him what I ordered, he came back asking me if I paid; which I did, and whether I have a receipt, which I was never given, so it was obvious that he couldn’t find my order. Waiters and table servers are not the same anymore, rarely when someone asks whether we need any thing. Lots of the time they walk by and when we try to get their attention, they just ignore us and continuing rushing to wherever they are going. To avoid the wait, on the third day, we decided to order form room dinning to take with us to the beach, they delivered the food in a reasonable time but one of the bags didn’t have a carrying handle! and they didn’t bother to change the bag, so how we were supposed to carry the bag to the beach without a handle! In short words, chaos, panic, and rudeness are now the new traits of many of the new staff. To be fair, I am happy that I still saw some of the old staff, and tenure managers, as well as few of the new managers, as they are very courteous, polite, hardworking, but there is much they can do. It is clear that they are trying hard, but they are carrying the dead weight of others. It is clear that the hotel spent significant amount of money on renovations and additions, but they didn’t do the same with regard to staffing, or they cut costs in hiring and training. I am sad to say, many of the new staff should not have been hired, and it is obvious that either they didn’t get properly trained or they don’t respond to training. I hope to see a turning point soon and I am praying for the new management to figure their “things” out very quickly. The hotel rates are comparable to NYC
