I stayed at Riad Dar Attika in Marrakech and there are many negative online reviews warning that the owner is a scammer (they are not exaggerated), I booked through a package and discovered just how accurate those warnings were. What followed felt more like a punishment than a holiday. I paid for a luxury suite with private amenities, I disputed the tiny dark room with no window on arrival and I was told every room was the same and no such facilities exist. I eventually managed to swap rooms. The room was the same, except it wasn’t in the dining room and had a window. The photos and description are pure misrepresentation. I paid the city tax in cash at check‑in (no receipt was offered). Several days later the owner claimed I hadn’t paid. After a heated discussion where I was called a liar and I had removed myself from the owners presence. A man appeared at my room claiming to be a rep, intimidation tactics were used by saying owner had a video of me not paying and police will be called. I stood firm and refused to pay twice. The owner contacted Love Holidays with fabricated lies about my conduct to discredit me and increase the pressure. As a woman travelling alone with my young son, this orchestrated intimidation was disgusting and clearly aimed at making us feel vulnerable enough to hand over more money. The stress and poor conditions drove me to book a night at another hotel (Labranda Targa) for a break. The tax dispute flared up only after I returned. After being dropped by a taxi close to the Riad, where men were waiting to scam, by quickly taking ur case and escorted you to your hotel. As it’s up alley ways, cars cannot take you there directly. It felt very unsafe and scary, especially for a woman and her young son. This man demanded the equivalent of 50 pounds for this 2 min walk. After I complained, the money was suddenly returned and the owner phoned urging me to trust only him—then started pushing overpriced excursions the very next day. The owner pushed excursions relentlessly. One day‑trip was quoted at €230, a tour I later found online for €20–€30—nearly ten times the real cost. This happened for another 2 trips plus on overpriced taxi fare of 50 euros which he instructed I pay to him. Every opportunity was turned into a way for the Riad owner to line his pocket. When I refused to pay the city tax twice, staff insisted there was video evidence (never shown) and called me a liar. A staff member sat at our table uninvited, which I found uncomfortable and over familiar and made comments (“Turkey good country, England bad country”). As a Scottish guest, I found this offensive and unprofessional. Meals were tagines every day lunch and dinner with no choices offered. Which for a bit repetitive after a few days. These were also big portion sizes, which may not be a bad thing, but we are but big eaters and were made to feel uncomfortable with comments such as “You no eat?, why you no eat, this is good food”, turned every meal into an ord

Well. I have mixed feelings about this. It's a delightful building. The bedroom was beautiful in its way. The sole staff member we saw was charming. But. I found the bed pretty hard. You don't get a key to the front door so have to knock or ring - but the doorbell was broken. There was some issue with the air conditioning remote controller. The staff member found one which worked, but then reappeared several times later asking us to try other remotes, none of which worked. The last time he knocked on our door waving an alternative remote controller (non-working again) for us to try was 11.30pm when we were in bed! We suspect from half heard conversations that people in another room went that night with no remote controller for their air conditioning. Finally, we were only asked to pay the tourist tax as we were leaving. Naturally, there was "no change" so we had to overpay slightly.

Me and my family had a great stay in this riad for our first time in Morocco and we strongly recommend it. The best thing was the hospitality, we were welcomed in the nicest and attentive way. The rest was top stars as well - a good breakfast, a comfortable room (we had the African Suite for 4 people in the top floor with access to the outdoor patio which we loved), a central location (within 8min walk from Jemaa el-Fnaa square and through very nice traditional shopping street - and yet the riad was quiet and relaxing). My best recommendation is to HAVE A MEAL THERE! We tried what felt like a million times couscous and tagines but by far the best, best, best we had was in the riad. It was our favorite meal in Morocco. If I return, I would like to stay again. Additionally, I will prefer to book extra services through the riad's team since they know best and are very professional (not just guided tours, but a hot air balloon ride for example). ✔️ Great hospitality ✔️ Central location ✔️ Amazing food ✔️ Authentic decor

Situated down a quiet street, with sad evidence of the effects of last year's earthquake in other buildings. The initial impression is of traditional Moroccan decor with the layout, the fabrics, lamps, etc and it is lovely. It isn't until you stay in a place for a while that you start to notice the little things such as the chipped tooth mug, the quality of the towels in the bathroom which were thin, frayed and had a small hole or two. Some of the crockery was also chipped or cracked. The bed is one of the hardest that we have slept on which affected our sleep quality. The toilet was loose which made using it a bit of a feat, the taps on the wash basin were also quite loose and the wash hand basin and surround were never cleaned the whole time we were there. The staff who work there are absoluely lovely and very obliging, although halfway through our stay, we were confronted one evening by a lady whom we had not seen before demanding we pay the city tax and for drinks that we had already had. I would have said she was quite aggressive, but the Arabic language can sound like that to someone not familiar with the language and from someone who did not speak English all that well. I did explain that we were staying for a week and would happily pay when we checked out as we would still have drinks to pay for. It was also strange having to knock or ring on the doorbell to get in each time we returned after a sightseeing trip. The terrace on the roof is perfect for relaxing with a choice of tables/chairs in the sun or a wondefulcovered, shaded area. We spent a lot of time here in the afternoons when it got too hot for sight seeing. A jacuzzi is also available, which we did use once. It could perhaps benefit from a mat to step out onto to prevent slipping as another guest who had a child splashed water over quite a lot of the floor and it wasn't easy to see where the water was. I feel I must mention the fact that we were scammed by the riad owner. We had purchased tickets to visit the Jardins Majorelle for mid afternoon. This particular day was our wedding anniversary and my birthday so we thought it would be a really nice place to visit. As the guide books advise, if unsure, ask at your hotel how much you should be paying for taxi rides. This we did and the owner (as we later found him out to be) mentioned that there are other gardens near and that he could arrange for a taxi to take us to those, wait for us, take us on to a different garden, wait then take us onto the jardins majorelle. Again, we thought that would be a lovely, relaxing, romantic thing to do. Please note the romantic here!. We asked the cost and he told me 60, which I took to be dirham, but he meant euro. I thought it a bit expensive but as my husband pointed out, we would have the taxi for the afternoon and we didn't know where the gardens were or if taxis were available to hire there. I did not hear properly the name of the gardens, being partly deaf, and looking ba

Arrived late to the property but the night manager met us at the taxi rank to escort us to the property, smooth fast check in. Room was authentic and very comfortable, breakfast was served either on the roof terrace or salon, plentiful and freshly cooked pancakes. The team are friendly and very kind, nothing too much trouble. Jamal the owner was brilliant! He helped book restaurants and taxis for day trips, he really was super helpful. We will stay again and would highly recommend this Riad in the heart of the old town, close to the squares and markets.
