Although it is an older property, it is well maintained and includes a complimentary swimming pool and adventure activities, which are enjoyable. The location is excellent, with easy access to all the major viewpoints in Matheran. One thing to note is that this is a strictly vegetarian hotel, and non-vegetarian food is not permitted, even if brought from outside. The complimentary breakfast is very basic and does not cater to international tastes. The breakfast options are limited, but still sufficient for a simple meal. The staff are friendly, courteous, and always willing to help. Overall, this is a good property and a worthwhile choice for anyone looking for a comfortable stay in a convenient location."

"This is a historically important location in Matheran.  Ratheesh and his business partner were so welcoming and helpful and the accommodation is so full of character. For a truly “green” and unique stay in a totally unique location, the Verandah in the Forest is absolutely a must. This is undoubtedly the place to stay in Matheran if you can get a room - would suggest booking early so as not to miss the chance to stay here - and is so much more than a hotel. Food was superb and because of the size and layout, never seemed busy. Quiet and relaxing stay.  As there’s no phone signal in Matheran Hill Station I’d suggest contacting Ratheesh before making the ascent to the hill station for location instructions. There is wi-fi at the Verandah in the Forest. "

"Receptionist staff Mr. Luke Parera and the front desk manager were very rude and they treated us with very unacceptable behaviour. They promised us with the best service while booking but during our staff we were provided with low facilities. We booked super deluxe room but we were given very low standard rooms. No fridge, no telecoms for room service, no internet connection in our area, very low room facilities."
