Hale Akua Garden Farm & Eco-Retreat

Really nice We had a great time, so nice to get away from it all.

Not enough staff on property to handle guest requests in the mornings; needed extra towels and got dirty ones. Noisy room. Naturally beautiful surroundings make up for this but the descriptions and actuals are divergent.

I was not expecting what we encountered based on the photos and reviews. This place is not nearly as nice as advertised. I know they're trying, but I was terribly disappointed and couldn't even stay for the second night. The room had ants crawling over furniture and on the walls. There was no air conditioning, but we thought for sure it was advertised having it. The "office" closes at night so there's no one to go to if you need things besides an "emergency number" you can call in the evenings. It was very dark and hard to see around the property after sunset. The pool was dirty, and the hot tub was a small "family style" hot tub you would find in someone's backyard. It was hard to know if it was kept clean or treated regularly. Folks seemed friendly and maybe the farm would have been cool, but it was really hard to relax in the room that wasn't well kept so I couldn't stay. I was really looking forward to staying here, but the retreat is not as advertised and was definitely a disappointment. Perhaps it was due to being low season. I'm not sure. But I couldn't even ask, because there was no staff around past 5pm.

Just great! Close to Highway, but calm, relaxing, enjoyed the stroll in the Garden, watched Stars from the hottub, our daughter Loved the Pool, Met nice people in the huge and well equipped Community kitchen! Definitly recommendable! Fresh flowers everywhere and they sell fresh fruits and vegetables from the Farm

If you don’t stay here, you absolutely have to do the farm tour here. Joe runs the whole farm and puts his heart and soul into it and it’s so intriguing to hear about the tour from someone so invested in this place. Hale Akua is very very Lucky to have such a kind, skilled, and knowledgeable person running the farm. We got to try some awesome fruits and learn about sustainable farming. Thank you for a one of a kind experience!!

My wife and I had our honeymoon on Maui. We stayed 2 nights at Hale Akua before heading elsewhere on the island, but on our last day, we cancelled our plans so we could return to Hale Akua! The staff was friendly, all amenities were available, and the room was spotless, but none of that compares to how incredibly tranquil the grounds are. We would gaze at the ocean from the jacuzzi, drink tea and watch the rain drop into the koi pond, walk amongst the many lush gardens, with their many graceful statues from Southeast Asia, or watch the gigantic cascading waterfall as the sun set. It is our favourite place on Earth. We wish we could live there permanently.
