Tenaya's Retreat is tucked away in Midpines directly on the route to Yosemite Valley! We welcome you to our Family Retreat. We chose the name Tenaya's Retreat after Chief Tenaya. He was the last chief of our tribe known as the Ahwahneechees, Yosemite Indians. On the walls are pictures of our ancestors going back six generations, along with a picture of our mother, Princess Tenaya with Cheif LeeMee. This property was given to our Great-Great Grandmother Tu-Tu-Ya (foaming water) or Maira Lebrado in 1892 from her husband. Unfortunately she lost the property for unpaid taxes (so they say). However in 2016 our sister was able to get the property back into our family. We hope you enjoy your stay and find beauty and serenity here like our ancestors. When you arrive at the home you will immediately feel welcomed by the peacefulness of the surroundings. The front door enters into a living room with a large couch for relaxing along with a flat screen tv and the historic wall of our honored ancestors. Past the living room is a large fully stocked kitchen, with everything you would need for your stay and a cute breakfast nook! Directly out the door of the kitchen is a private patio with an outdoor dining set and a BBQ. The house has 3 bedrooms, with tv's in each bedroom, and 2 bathrooms. This is a perfect house for traveling with family or friends. Its just a short drive to Yosemite. Yosemite's park gate is about 20 miles from the house. This is a perfect location to come home to, after a day in the park, to relax and BBQ!! The town of Mariposa is only 7 miles away, where there is a large grocery store, gas stations, boutique shopping and many excellent restaurants. Yosemite VacationRental.Location: Highland House Vacation Rental is approximately a 30 minute drive from the main entrance to Yosemite National Park and 7 miles from the Gold Rush town of Mariposa. The cabin is located a short walk from a small country store and across the street from a bus stop taking travelers to and from Yosemite. The elevation is 2,500 ft in pines and on a seasonal creek with wild life and a variety of birds.History: The cabin was the home of Newell Chamberlain, founder of the town of Midpines. He published articles and The Call of Gold- True Tales on the Gold Road to Yosemite, a book regarding gold mining in the area during the 1930’s. Accommodations: The cabin is equipped with a kitchen, including oven, cook top, microwave, dual sink, refrigerator, pots, pans, utensils, teapot, coffee maker, toaster and much more. There is a washer and dryer in the laundry room. The living area has a dining area with a view of the forest and a living room with a beautiful view of bear creek and the surrounding forest. Wi-Fi and internet access is provided.Sleeping Arrangements: The cabin has two bedrooms downstairs and a bedroom and loft upstairs. Downstairs, there are two full bathrooms. Bedroom 1 has a queen bed and spacious sitting area, Bedroom 2 has a full bed and private bath. Bedroom 3 has a queen bed and the loft has two twin size beds. Rooms have closets and chests for clothing and storage. (sleeps up to 8 people) Linens and paper goods are provided along with Laundry detergent, soap, and shampoo. In the kitchen, you will find coffee, tea, dish detergent, paper towels, etc.Local Restaurants and shopping: Several very good restaurants are located within seven miles. A country store is within walking distance. Pioneer Market, a full service grocery store, is located in Mariposa (7miles).A rule or two: This cabin is a no smoking and no pet facility. It is situated on over 5 acres of lush greenery surrounded by black oaks and ponderosa pines. It provides ample privacy and peacefulness with an unobstructed mountain view and a view of the daily sunrise. A short 5-minute drive takes you to Merced River, or if you keep going, you are at Yosemite within 25 minutes. What a perfect opportunity to connect with nature! It features an open floor plan with a formal dining room, game area, movie room, and living area with picture windows that provide a holistic view of the picturesque mountains. You can use the day bed in the living area to lay down and relax, soaking in the Beauty of Nature or the view of the mountains, or just watch TV. The master bedroom is separated from the main sleeping area and features a master bathroom with a separate shower and tub layout, as well as a separate office area and walking closet. All rooms have larger windows with light-blocking shades. This property is the perfect getaway for calm and serenity. Also, we are a Low “light pollution location” perfect for stargazing! Amenities outside include a fire pit, grill, chairs, picnic table, and string lights. We provide various fun activities/games such as air hockey, foosball, several board games, and some outdoor games such as corn-hole also available. Due to its proximity to Yosemite National Park, wildlife, including deer, turkey, mountain lions, and bears, are known to inhabit the surrounding areas. While we don’t anticipate our guests to run into larger wildlife, please keep this in mind and always supervise children. The home is on a hilltop and has a paved driveway with a slope. One thing to note is that we don't get a ton of snow, and it is rare, but during the winter, snow can sometimes require 4-wheel drive and chains to access the property, the town of Mariposa, and Yosemite. Home is centrally located: 24.7 mi: Yosemite Entrance Gate (Central) 5.1 mi: Merced River Recreation Area 7.7 mi: to Mariposa 37.4: mi to Bass Lake Guest will have the entire house for themself. Plenty of space for multiple-vehicle parking! Power outages may happen in this area from time to time. The home is not equipped with a generator. If a power outage occurs, the appliances, water, and heating & cooling will not work until power is restored. EV Charging (Additional Cost): We have a Tesla wall connector installed at the property for guests to use. We will let you know exactly how much you used during your stay and charge you what the power company will charge us for KWH used at the end of your trip. Non-Tesla owners, please carry the adaptor. Fire Pit: We don't provide wood for the fire pit. You can either collect dry wood pieces around the property or buy them from the Midpines Store and Gas, which is just 2-minute away by car. (Due to our delicate ecosystem and the high risk of wildfires, outdoor fires are prohibited between May and October.) NOTE: The game room doesn't have air conditioning, but we do supply a fan.
