Quality Inn & Suites Minden

We pulled in with a reservation late in the evening. First thing we noticed was there was not a single car there, none. As we checked in he mentioned we could not have the top floor room we requested because they were all closed and not in use. Strange, hopefully renovating. Then I noticed a handwritten sign that said they were not serving the breakfast they advertised, and the pool was closed. At that point I asked for a refund. He quickly took care of that, and we left. Obviously we were not the first to walk away. The whole situation is very odd. Not our typical Choice hotel experience. I would definitely avoid this property.

If you’re planning on staying here, it’s only because you ran out of better options. Much better options. A tent might be a better option. Is this a Quality Inn? Maybe, if you’re in an alternative universe. I don’t know what’s going on with this place. The property management sincerely believes guests won’t notice what hasn’t been repaired, probably in several years. Perhaps they are strongly hoping that you might assume it’s a temporary condition of the property. It’s not. I took the ice bucket from the room and walked over to the laundry/ icemaker utility room. All of the appliances in the room were unplugged and disconnected several years ago. There are no soda/snacks vending machines for guests. Welcome to the Quality Inn in Minden, Nevada on Friday, April 25th at 3:00 check in time. The reservations were prepaid the night before. The weather report on Wednesday in South Lake Tahoe mentioned a snow shower in the Reno-Tahoe area on Friday night. We opted to wait and see, regarding the impending storm and go back to the bay area on Sunday instead of Friday. This place was the cheapest option. We would decide later what to do, depending on the weather. We’ve stayed at some Quality Inn locations that were absolutely wonderful. Let’s just say this place is in a category of its own, and not in the "W" column. I was behind another customer checking in and making payment. The front desk person advised her that if she paid in cash, he would give her a discount. She tells him that she does not carry that much money. It seemed like an odd request from the hotel attendant. As I’m waiting, I made observations about the front desk area. ALL of the chairs are stacked up in the breakfast area. All of the familiar breakfast station areas were unplugged, same for the coffee station. The breakfast area is closed. There’s a yellowed, curled paper sign stating that there is no Wi-Fi. It’s an easy assumption that it’s been that way for several years. The back office was stuffed with linens and towels that looked like they were jammed in there for a holding area for cleaning. I made note of the conversation between the customer ahead of me to determine what was the actual “Quality” of this “Quality” Inn. Limited housekeeping. From what I can see, not much else. My hope is that the room has heat. The person at the front desk had a thick accent. I gave the attendant the reservation no. and requested a downstairs room, possibly an ADA type for my husband’s needs. I was informed that there was temporarily NO breakfast (Again, it looks like it’s been “TEMPORARY” for a long time). IF I needed the room for more than one night’s stay, they requested that I inform them early in the morning, as the housekeepers quit. I was also told the front desk is only open for limited hours, check-in and check-out times. The room was mostly acceptable. The space heater worked, but emitted a high-pitched whine on a bearing as it cycled up and down. The room had two

The property had cockroaches, the linens were not as white clean as you would expect, the lighting in the room was dim, the surrounding property is falling apart that some areas didn’t look safe. Bed frame is metal so it was a bit noisy. Toilet bowl is tired and not as clean as it should be. Curtains could use a little sprucing up. Bed sheets and blanket are thread bare thin. Check-in staff is nice enough but not the most engaging.
