Makini Bush Camp, Yala

Did accommodation units are in the middle of the bush separate from one another and allow privacy. The design is very appealing. The camp team and host Harun where very friendly and helpful. We combine this visit with the Safari in the Yala reserve. Gave her a complete Bush experience with the luxurious feeling of accommodation. Highly recommended.

We had an amazing experience and was delighted with the knowledge that our guide Sirnath had. He answered every question I asked and you could see how passionate he was about nature. The tented lodge was amazing, spotless clean,air conditioning, tea and coffee facilities and plunge pool . The food was great and the service was truly wonderful. We were so lucky to see leopards on both our drives along with amazing birds and other creatures. The barbecue night around the fire was lovely and gave you a chance to interact with other guests and of course the guides. We were just beginning our start of a two week trip touring Sri Lanka but definitely would have liked to stay at Makini longer.

The, friendliness and attentiveness from staff in this camp is second to none. We did morning and afternoon safaris over 2 days with Arun as our guide. His passion and knowledge for the fauna and wildlife made it all come to life. Through his skill we were the first jeep to see a leopard. An evening bbq was cooked to perfection and served in a picture postcard setting. A star gazing platform with a talk on the stars finished a lovely night.

We had a wonderful stay over 3 nights, in a fabulous setting. The staff were delightful and very attentive, and we particularly enjoyed the nature walk with the naturalist Arun who was extremely knowledgable and showed us the amazing bird life around the camp. The food was excellent and we would highly recommend.

Makini Bush Camp is an absolute gem in Yala! The stunning tented rooms are beautifully decorated and equipped with all the comforts you could wish for, including a refreshing plunge pool—perfect for cooling off after a walk in the bush. The staff goes above and beyond to ensure an unforgettable stay, accommodating a range of experiences, including a half-day safari inside the park and a delightful nature walk around the camp. Our guide, Mr. Koushalya, was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the local flora and fauna. He shared fascinating insights about every leaf, insect, and bird we encountered, making our journey all the more enriching. The food at Makini Bush Camp is simply the best we’ve had in Sri Lanka! Each meal features delicious homemade dishes made from fresh, local ingredients—everything was absolutely delightful! Given the camp's secluded location, I highly recommend opting for the all-inclusive package, as leaving the premises can be a bit complicated. The staff truly invests effort into creating memorable experiences. They accompanied us to a beautiful ceremony at a nearby temple, and upon our return, we were greeted with a candlelit table draped in white cloth, set around a bonfire under the stars. It was an enchanting evening! Overall, Makini Bush Camp is a special place that offers a unique perspective on Sri Lanka. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an extraordinary experience!

There’s so much positive feedback to share about our stay at Makini but our top three highlights: 1. The staff, from the moment we arrived to the minute we left, the staff treated us like royalty. They were attentive, friendly and fun! Special call out to Aroon for being our expert guide on safari and the bush walks around the property. He is knowledgeable and took the time to ensure we had a memorable stay. 2. The accommodation, we have stayed at 6 different hotels over the last few weeks and Makini was our favorite. Comfy beds, clean and luxurious room with a private pool! 3. The experiences, we did two bushwalks and a safari as well as impromptu star gazing. We learned a lot about the local wildlife, flora and fauna but even more about the people, history and culture of Sri Lanka. The best stay in Sri Lanka, Thankyou to Maddi and his team.
