Gal Oya Lodge

I was travelling around Sri Lanka and just stumbled into this oasis! From the first moment I arrived to the second I left the staff were just amazing. The food was great and the rooms were spacious (no AC but I loved that). I only stayed 3 nights which wasn't enough time to do all the activities but from the ones I did I would definitely recommend a swim in "New Tank", the night walk and of course the boat safari is a must. I also did the Jungle drive and even though I didn't see too many animals I had the most amazing time swimming in the river and relaxing on the banks. I will never forget my stay.

On the plus side: the place has great food incl the packed lunches and organises great trips like the boat safari. Regarding “peace and quiete” - we had some families with crying children staying at the same time, no need to say more. The biggest issue at this place are the rooms. They look nice and were obviously designed by some artist-architect, BUT at 35 degrees centigrade outside, they are simply too hot. There are air conditioners but the ceiling is completely open - the a/c are useless, and they were put over the bed, blowing some cold air right in your face. Very strange design. And no breeze from outside, what were these artists thinking ?? Having said that, maybe it’s better during a colder period of the year. Staff is extremely friendly !!

What can I say, this place is magical, top 2 places that I visited in Sri Lanka. The bungalows were huge and staff amazing. We saw a heard of swimming elephants on the boat trip too! The staff were very friendly. Definitely try the river baked fish…..a winner. I heard that they were adding plunge pools too so will have to return!

We had a lovely stay at Gal Oya Lodge. Such a serine location, with wildlife surrounding the rooms and the main lodge. The staff were very helpful, particularly our guide who looked after us for our entire stay and did a great job at answering all of our questions. Lovely pool as well!

Best of Lanka booked this boutique accommodation for us to access activities in the region. It is eco focused and does not provide wifi - both positive elements. The rooms are huge and facilities superior, the staff were very attentive and all very helpful - the local walks with staff are excellent. The food was great. We loved the pool. All in all, a great place to stay!

Wow - what a place! Firstly the scenery was wonderful, and the staff warm and welcoming. Also very helpful with bird spotting and identifying - appreciated! The food was delicious, a nice variety of things in the menu, and the room was lovely and spacious too with an outdoor bathroom. We had some trouble with opening our safe, and the staff came and helped within 5 minutes. I did a complimentary night walk around the hotel, amazing! We saw so much and it was really interesting to see the forest at night. The real highlights were the jeep tour and boat tour, both led by Sam. He was amazing! Best guide of our holiday by far. Incredible at spotting animals, identifying them, and very helpful at getting us in good positions for photos. Also allowed us ample time for photos, thank you!
