Mahoora - Udawalawe by Eco Team

The place the food the tents the amenities and the entire experience was nothing short of world class. The chef outdid himself at every meal and the staff went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. Solomon is a fantastic and passionate naturalist who took great pride in sharing his knowledge on the safari. We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 days there and have no hesitation recommending the camp to international travelers. Keep up the good work team Mahoora!

If you're planning a visit to Udalawawe National Park, we highly recommend including an overnight stay at the Mahoora Tented Safari Camp, as sleeping in a tent surrounded by wildlife is quite an adventure. The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive to our needs. The candlelight dinner by the open fire was particularly atmospheric. Still brimming with impressions from the safari, our guide Solomon shared many stories with us after dinner about elephants and other animals, and the experiences he has made over the years protecting wildlife in the National Parks of Sri Lanka.

Highly recommended We spent two nights at Mahoora Tented Safari with a private tour guide. Solomon, our tour guide, was very knowledgeable and we learned so much about nature and wildlife. Despite it being monsoon season, we were very lucky and got to see not only lots of animals but also elephants and babies. However, this should not be taken as a reflection on the quality of Mahoora Camp. The staff were extremely helpful and the food was excellent. We enjoyed every moment.

What an experience. We were blown away by the location, quality of the service and food and just general setting of the camp. Prince Solomon was excellent as our safari guide, and helped us spot and identify a huge amount of birds and wildlife. We felt totally secure and looked after at the camp, we didn’t have any issues with bugs or monkeys! We were sensible with our tent and kept it zipped up at all times! Dining under candlelight whilst watching fireflies in the trees was magical! The afternoon safaris were great for elephants and the morning safari was incredible for birds, made even more special with a safari breakfast in the park that was one of the best breakfasts we had in Sri Lanka! Worth every penny if you want to emerse yourself in a safari experience!

We stayed for one night at the Camp and regret for not booking two nights! We were a bit worried about sleeping in a tent but when we arrived at the camp and were met by Solomon and the lovely staff, all our worries disappeared. We had a super comfy bed and a lovely tent which was slightly old but very clean. We had all we could have wished for a romantic night with lovely three course barbecue dinner and a camp fire! The entire camp felt very secure and we felt that all staff were efficient, professional and friendly. The best part was the romantic atmosphere gazing at the stars, listening in the night, being surrounded by stunning nature, birds and wildlife. The next morning, after a tasty freshly cooked breakfast, Solomon gave us a walking tour of nature surrounding the camp and the gorgeous lake nearby.He is an experienced and personable guide who is very passionate about nature and can spot birds and small animals from 500 meters. His story telling and knowledge about Sri Lanka flora and fauna is very extensive. He showed us native birds and a chameleon that we could not see without the binoculars. We encountered the famous red back woodpecker, the giant squirrels, monitor lizards, wild rabbit and numerous beautiful water birds at the lake. We came across the traces of the elephants who pass around the camp during the night to get to the water in the lake. We learnt so much from Solomon and are so grateful for his informative tour and friendly service. We strongly recommend the Mahoora Tented Safari Camp to those visiting the Udawalawe National Park and would like to express our special thanks to Solomon and the team.

In February 2025, we spent three nights at the Mahoora Camp by Eco Team to visit Udawalawe National Park. We organized our safari and transfer to Colombo with Mahoora and chose the half-board option. Our breakfast was packed for our safaris, and be aware that lunch is included even with the half-board option if you decide to go on a full-day safari. All the packed food is tasty, well-prepared, and provided in generous portions (perhaps even a bit too much!). For our safaris, we decided to have a Naturalist escort, which was absolutely fantastic as it greatly helps in identifying the many bird species you can see. We want to thank Solomons for his sharp eye, extensive knowledge, and passion for sharing his expertise. On our last morning, we decided to switch our morning safari session for a visit to the Elephant Rescue Center, which is a nice add-on to consider during your trip. Once again, Mahoora was great in helping us arrange this. The resort also offers day and night walks, but after a long safari, you might just prefer to rest. Dinners were tasty, the service was excellent, and the food was once again served in generous portions. As stated on the website, be aware that beverages are not included (except for water). Lastly, the tent was very nicely set up. Of course, you can't expect the same level of comfort as in a hotel, but our stay was lovely. Each tent is equipped with a fan and a private bathroom. Be aware that insects and small animals may enter the tent. There is a protective net, but you have to use it properly. The only downside was that the Wi-Fi was out of service. We would definitely recommend this place and would love to come back!
