My wife and I have lived on the Central Coast for several years and have visited Lucia Lodge a few times during our time here. It is not glamorous or trendy or full of nightlife, but it is a hidden gem along the most spectacular part of the Pacific Coast Highway between San Simeon and Big Sur. Built in the 1930's, Lucia Lodge is part of a mid 1800's land grant that includes 10 well appointed cabins including en suite bathrooms, comfortable queen beds, gas fireplace and one of the most stunning views of the rugged California coastline found anywhere. Staying here doesn't require a wave machine to lull you to sleep because the Pacific Ocean is 500 feet below you and waves of 10-15 feet in height crash against the shoreline creating one of the best nights' sleep EVER. They even have modern conveniences like WiFi, and in room coffee in the morning. If you ask me, I'm surprised that they aren't booked a year in advance, so this is a great time to visit.
