As seasoned travelers who have stayed at various establishments across the US and internationally, we recently had the opportunity to stay at the Morgan in WV, largely due to its positive reviews. This historic hotel boasts beautiful architecture and clean rooms. However, our experience was marred by subpar service and competency, which fell short of expectations for a premier hotel. Specifically, the valet's demeanor was unprofessional between phone usage and cigarette smoking, and the front desk staff was friendly but seemed distracted by their phones and proved to be inefficient. Upon checkout, we forgot an item in the refrigerator. After realizing our mistake, we returned to the hotel and notified the front desk. Unfortunately, the staff and manager were unable to resolve this straightforward issue promptly, taking nearly 40 minutes and spending time on their phones instead of addressing our concerns. A growing trend is emerging of young employees exhibiting a zombie-like state of entrancement with their cell phones, marked by indifference and annoyance when expected to be present, attentive, efficient, and fulfill their job responsibilities. This is simply unacceptable in the service industry. The hotel is beautiful and has charming amenities, but you should not expect quality service or prompt resolutions to issues.
