Very nice hotel ,large car park and beautiful reception. Greeted pleasantly and checked in for our overnight stay complete with breakfast and evening 4 course meal. Our room was grand but the toilet looked to have been replaced and was 100m away from the tiles and the hole unsealed, other than that it was fine for our stay. However the award winning restaurant was something completely different. We were warmly greeted and showed to our table, menus and water came together with the wine list. We decided we would like a gin and Tonic while we decided, at that point the wine glasses and wine list were removed. We had to request that they were returned. The menu looked interesting with sufficient choices and well described, the wine list was the opposite, with the only information of the various wines was is origins. Which the wine we ordered was described as Italian when it was French, copying the descriptions from bottles to wine list would help guest choose . The wine we choose was splendid, but our starters were less so, that was quickly followed by the salmon as our main dishes. Which had been cooked to a point that shouldn't be allowed to be served dry tasteless with a accompanying over slightly acidic dressing . The sides of vegetables were raw and tepid the mash potatoes were better but lacked seasoning as did the dish as a whole. Cream brulee to finished was OK ,as it was nearly good. Coffee and tea to follow. It was as if we were in a race with waiting staff but it lacked any finesse, maybe we were expecting better from a published award winning restaurant, which on the night we stayed we could only give a 5 out of 10. It seemed a shame because we could see the intent but lacked the ability to deliver the food and service. Breakfast unfortunately was no better.
