Courtwood Inn

We stayed here a couple of nights while going to a concert at Ironstone Amphitheater in Murphys. We had never visited the area before. First off, the owners are wonderful, kind, and cook the awesome breakfasts themselves! The location, view, amenities, and environment are all top notch and wonderful! If you are into tennis, the owners are retired tennis pros, and offer lesson games. They have two full size courts and this beautiful modern log cabin lodge on top of a hill with sweeping spectacular views of old natural California. They offer useful coupons to businesses in town with certain packages. This will be our go to Bed and Breakfast Inn in the foothills. This place rates with the best B&B's we have seen in Napa, Carmel, and the Mendocino Coast! Quite close to Calaveras Big Trees park as well. Thanks for a great stay, Chris and Larry!

We had a change of plans for our road trip and found this delightful B and B at the last minute. We were very pleasantly surprised; the property is beautiful architecturally, the hosts were really gracious and welcoming, and the breakfasts were wonderful. Murphy's is a little foodie haven with a bunch of local cellar doors open to the public, and historic goldrush era buildings in the surrounding villages. We didn't plan for tennis, but the hosts are both ex pros; so if tennis is your thing, then Coachwood would be a match made in heaven (ahem....)

Peaceful Place to Stay We had the best stay at the Courtyard Inn! When I booked I didn’t realize it was a bed and breakfast and only had 5 rooms. It was amazingly quiet inside and out. We sat on the balcony at night and just relaxed in the peace and quiet of nature. A homemade breakfast was served each morning, and the host also made a homemade cake and brownies while we were there.

We had a brief but lovely stay at CourtWood Inn while in Murphys for a concert. Chris and Larry are superb hosts - giving helpful tips about navigating the concert venue, providing a very comfortable stay and serving an absolutely delicious breakfast. The room (Australia) was great: great bed, roomy and well-equipped bathroom and really nice outdoor space with a view to the valley. When Ironwood Vineyards puts on a concert (with almost 7K attending!), cute little Murphys is bursting with people, so although we love staying "in town" it was really nice to be a very short (1.5 miles) way out of the hustle bustle.

We loved our stay - it was peaceful, beautiful and very clean. The highlight - the most delicious freshly baked lemon cookies I’ve ever had (baked by Chris with homegrown Meyer lemons!). Although it’s not right in town, it’s a very short drive. Highly recommend this B&B.

Wow, just Wow! The Courtwood Inn is located up in the hills a short drive from downtown Murphy's. Set off by itself with stunning views over the hills, it is peaceful and quiet. The log home is perfect for the setting. We parked and buzzed to get in to check-in late afternoon. Larry and Chris were so friendly and welcoming. They checked us in, showed us around the common areas and breakfast room then took us downstairs to our room, which is just off a game room with a ping pong table. The house is like stepping into a mountain log home. The living room has a beautiful stone fireplace and comfy furniture to cozy into with a good book. The wrap around deck off the living room has tables and chairs with boundless views. The wine bar off the entry is where you will find your cheese and crackers and glass of wine from the local area in the late afternoon. The breakfast room is cozy and comfortable. Going downstairs to our room, we were in the Australian Open room, just off a larger game room with a ping pong table. Our room was so cozy and comfortable. We had a small living area with a sofa and coffee table. The bedroom had a comfy bed with a TV and sliding doors out to the lower patio. There were stunning views from the patio and a table with four chairs. Our bathroom was large with a large vanity and double sinks and a fabulous shower. We settled in, sat out on the deck upstairs to enjoy our wine, views and cheese and crackers. Our one night stay was during the week and there was only one other couple at the inn who were so nice and we enjoyed a visit with them over a delicious breakfast the next morning. We so wished we had more nights at this inn. Everything was first class and again Larry and Chris are the perfect owners for an inn. They cooked breakfast themselves and it was incredible. We didn't even need lunch. Both Larry and Chris are tennis Phanatic's, and there are tennis courts at the inn. I believe they both may have played professionally and you can get lessons with Larry if you schedule them before your stay. Note: As we were leaving and visiting with Larry and Chris, we told them we will be back as Murphy's is such a cool town in the Gold Country and the inn is the best. Larry said well with that being said, Chris and I have decided to retire and he handed me a flyer from the real estate company along with a letter from he and Chris advising guests of their retirement. However, until it sells they will be running the inn. So, do yourself a favor and run to stay at the inn before we may no longer have that option. Thank you Larry and Chris, although our stay was short, we loved every minute and enjoyed meeting and visiting with you both.
