It's such a gorgeous place, and since the rooms are little 'houses' in the grounds of the host family's home we had the perfect experience of having independence and connection. As it happens the connection part was tested to the full as I developed a tooth infection. Elizabeth and Jacob, despite their incredibly busy life, ferried me into town twice to the dentist and the pharmacy and were the soul of kindness. We relaxed and read, and one of us swam and painted. We chatted to passers by, and to some wonderful fellow guests over delicious meals and the geese chatted to us when they came out for their daily swim. We walked with Sri Kumar to his village nearby and we took a sunset boat ride. It was idyllic, except for the tooth infection, but that's what I'll remember most I think. The kindness.

I stayed with my wife and 3 kids (9, 13, 14) in December. The homestay was wonderful. The cabins are lovely and comfortable, the setting was stunning, the activities (including kayaking and a cooking demo) were great and the food was some of the best we had in India. The owners and manager were friendly and accommodating hosts. I would very much recommend Kurialacherry if you’re visiting this part of Kerala.

Really friendly hosts, lovely food and right on the water. We had good wifi and it was such a unique experience. I would encourage everyone to stay here. It was nice to stay with a family who have lived here for generations and to get to know plus it was convenient for seeing the water

I want to keep kurialacherry house a secret but that would be unfair… This is what peace looks and feels like. Sitting on the river bank watching the houseboats go by surrounded by nature, watching mongoose play in the bushes and the family of geece cross the garden to wash and bathe, yoga on the terrace and incredible food. Delightful owners and kind, attentive staff (Mr Kumar!). I will be back. Please don’t ever change…

We stayed with Jacob and Elizabeth for 4 nights towards the end of a four week trip in India. We arrived with no particular plans, aside from relaxation and seeing life in Kerala's backwaters. We were not disappointed - and our indeed our expectations were surpassed. The atmosphere of the area is amazing, and Jacob and Elizabeth have plenty of interesting activities (many of them free of charge) which reveal the a slice of the village life here. In particular, the early morning canoe ride, the cooking demo and the village walk were highlights for us. The food they serve for every meal was fantastic, we both agreed that it was the best we had in our entire trip, which included visiting places in both North and South India. All at a very reasonable price. The staff that they employ are very welcoming and friendly too, with a particular thanks to Shree Kumar who took us out on many of the excursions and taught us about the area and the life of the local people. Overall, Kurialacherry House ended up being our favourite place that we stayed in India. We hope to come back, and would definitely stay here again. Thank you!
