Explorers Lodge

This stylish and elegant New Norfolk gem is beautifully and lovingly maintained. As soon as we stepped over the threshold, we knew that we will have a wonderful time here. Our room was spacious, clean, very comfortable with little touches that made for a special stay - from home-baked cookies to quality Australian-made toiletries. Our cooked breakfasts were superb.

We loved the three nights we stayed at Explorers Lodge in the Blackwood room. The Lodge is decorated beautifully in the Hampton style. There are two relaxing rooms for guests to socialise or enjoy some quiet time in before they retire for the night. During our stay they were delightfully decorated for the approaching festive season. The beds were extremely comfortable with premium linens. The variety of options for breakfast was amazing and they were perfectly cooked by our host. The mixed berry compote was sooo delicious. We wouldn’t hesitate to stay again if we were in New Norfolk.

What a perfect place to start our tour of Tassie for our 40th Wedding Anniversary. Had the smallest room but it was cosy, spotlessly clean and had everything we needed for our two night stopover. The homemade biccies, complimentary bottle of pinot and the information booklet (once we saw it - a bit hidden high up) added another thoughtful touch. The breakfast was absolutely fantastic, both days. Very high attention to detail throughout the property with a lovely sun lounge overlooking the garden, complete with a couple of tables perfect for your own evening takeaway meals (microwave, paper cutlery and plates provided too). The additional sunken lounge with Hampton styling was perfect for sitting and enjoying a couple of glasses of whatever takes your fancy, or a sip or two of the port provided. We felt so comfortable lounging about in that room with a cheese platter (we bought) and few glasses of red! The main host is Michael, who was very informative about day trips and the history of Explorers Lodge (continuing to find out more too). His partner "helps" as he has a full time job, but both were quietly friendly and truly have created a beautifully appointed and well run B & B. I am very fussy but highly recommend staying here. Explorer’s Lodge was our last stop after spending four weeks driving around Tasmania and it was the perfect way to end a wonderful trip. We were in the Silver wattle room which was beautiful. Having the balcony to sit on and have a cuppa was ideal. The bedroom is elegant and the bathroom is modern. Michael’s b&b stood out from others we stayed at in so many ways…handmade shortbread, chocolates, port, amazing range of breakfast choices with homemade preserves and stewed local fruit, large tv with streaming services and quiet location. So much is in easy access to New Norfolk…lunch @ The Shed, Derwent Estate, lunch/dinner @ Osteria Vista Stefano Lubiano Winery, Agrarian Kitchen, lunch @ Frogmore Creek Winery plus Russell falls and other great walks nearby. Michael is such a warm generous host so don’t hesitate to stay at Explorer’s Lodge and start exploring!

The most beautifully restored and decorated house, with large bedrooms, king beds, great views and awesome service. Michael greeted us and showed us to our rooms and gave us all the local information we needed. Lovely sitting areas for guests and a beautiful garden to wander through. there are fruit trees, vegetables and chooks! Exceptional breakfast with many options and real espresso coffee! Included some produce from garden, including their own preserved fruits. I would highly recommend Explorers Lodge

My husband & I had a wonderful relaxed stay at this sensational B&B in early Feb. Explorers Lodge is an historic & beautiful home, meticulously managed by Michael & Roberto - very tastefully decorated, peaceful, welcoming & surrounded by gorgeous gardens. Our upstairs room & newly renovated ensuite overlooked the gardens and trees & featured a divinely comfortable bed; crisp white linen; thoughtful toiletries & extras; home baked shortbread to enjoy with tea or coffee & beautiful soft furnishings. Breakfast was next level - our hosts are talented chefs & we enjoyed perfectly cooked eggs, homemade relishes, muesli & berry compote, sourdough bread, good coffees & more - no need for lunch after the gourmet spread! They were generous with their hospitality, help & time to talk & gave us some great travel tips & recommendations. We will be back & highly recommend this B&B - so handy to Hobart, Derwent Valley & central Tassie & far more personable & enjoyable than any hotel.
