We stayed at the hotel for seven nights and unfortunately found the overall experience disappointing, particularly given the standard of accommodation and service the hotel presents itself as offering. We paid to upgrade to a Deluxe King room with a furnished balcony. While the room itself was adequate, it was somewhat dated and in need of attention. More concerning was the condition of the balcony, which certainly did not justify being presented as a premium feature. The paint was peeling, the balcony doors were dirty, the railings were rusted, and the furniture consisted of two dirty metal chairs. It was apparent that the balcony had not been properly cleaned or maintained for some time and did not appear to form part of the hotel’s regular housekeeping routine. The most significant issue during our stay, however, was the consistently poor housekeeping. On several occasions, we would leave the hotel for the entire day and return at approximately 6pm to find that our room had still not been serviced. We repeatedly had to contact reception to request that the room be cleaned. An isolated oversight is entirely understandable. However, when the same problem occurs repeatedly over a seven-night stay, despite being brought to the hotel’s attention, it can no longer reasonably be regarded as an oversight. It reflects a failure to provide a basic and expected hotel service. Equally disappointing was the manner in which some of our complaints were initially handled. Rather than acknowledging that daily housekeeping was a reasonable expectation, we were at times made to feel as though we were being unreasonable for raising the issue. Guests should not have to repeatedly request or chase a hotel for a fundamental service that forms part of their stay. I eventually escalated my concerns and met with Ms Franklin, whom I understand is a director at the hotel. She was pleasant, professional and appeared genuinely concerned about our experience. She listened to the issues raised and offered three drinks vouchers as a gesture of goodwill, which I appreciated. Unfortunately, the housekeeping problem occurred again the very next day, which was particularly disappointing after the matter had been escalated to such a senior level. There were positives. The hotel is extremely well located, particularly for Bourbon Street and the French Quarter, and the staff were generally friendly and pleasant. We also enjoyed the pool bar. However, the wider amenities were underwhelming, and several areas of the property would benefit considerably from refurbishment, improved maintenance and much greater attention to cleanliness. Ultimately, the hotel has an enviable location and clearly benefits from the significant tourist traffic attracted to the area. However, our experience left us with the impression that considerably more attention is given to maximising the commercial potential of that location than to ensuring a consistently high standard of comfort and service for
