To start with the positive, the beds in this hotel are comfy, the staff is really nice and helpful, the internet is fast, and there is free, good-tasting coffee in the lobby 24/7. But, I must caution fellow travelers about my overall unpleasant experience. I was visiting NYC for a week, for a work conference. I had anticipated a relaxing and productive trip, but there was so much construction-related noise in this hotel that both my work and my rest were ruined. All rooms on the west half of the building (which I was told includes all rooms with queen-sized beds) faces directly onto major construction that began, when I was there, before 8am and continued until at least 5pm. This construction was so loud that I couldn't work on polishing my conference presentation while in my room. As you can see in one of my photos, they are starting to dig a foundation on the adjoining lot. And the noise was insanely loud - like they're jackhammering through bedrock. If you plan to work in your room and are noise sensitive, or would like to sleep past 8am, keep this in mind before you decide to stay here. The project will clearly go on for a year or more. I used earplugs, and they didn't help at all. My thanks to the front desk staff, who at my request moved me on my second night to an east-facing room that did not directly face onto the construction site. But, suddenly some renovation in the hallways began, and so there was still the extremely loud noise of drilling, nailing and hammering filtering into my room all throughout the daytime. Honestly, these two construction projects together made my six night awful and left me more tired than I was when I arrived in NYC! Also, the slightly quieter room I was moved to was smaller (a full instead of a queen; less floor space, and smaller bathroom) but I was not refunded the difference in cost, paying for a full stay at the higher queen bed rate. The manager told me this was because someone else was "upgraded" to the noisy room I left, so I still had to pay the difference.
