This was our second stay at the Ilsington, but this time was a little bit longer, as we loved it so much the first time. The hotel is located on the border of Dartmoor National Park, and therefore allows you contrasting views, from the front you get beautiful rolling hills of South Devon, stretching as far as the coast, to the rear, the fields slowly turn into moorland, and towards a nearby Tor. The hotel is still family run, and they appear to have a good eye on employing excellent staff, who are able to be attentive and not over burdening. Check in was a breeze, reminded us of our spa treatments for the week, and also reminded us of their facilities. This is another ace in their deck, they have a beautiful indoor swimming pool, with hydra pool, and saunas with showers, robes, flip flops are all provided. Perfect. Food at the Ilsington, was again of a very high standard, and did not disappoint. Whether it was the perfect breakfast, with smoked haddock with poached egg, or the fresh fruit from the continental side, all was excellent. Afternoon Tea was also not to be missed, and on the final evening they allowed us to have our meal from the restaurant in the bar area, one of us tried the smoked roast beef, absolutely beautiful. Which brings us back to the staff, they are part of the hotel experience, they worked hard, but also had the time to talk with you, a special mention to Tom, Abigail and Cameron, all three were brilliant. Not forgetting the chef and his team, they were aware of a specific allergy one of us had, and made sure the rights foods were avoided. If you want a lovely quiet laid back hotel, where you can just kick off your shoes and get away from the daily grind, and have the odd walk onto the moors.this hotel is the place.
