Best Western Plus Holiday Sands Inn Suites

Great location. Courteous and professional staff at the front desk. However! This was one of the dirtiest rooms I've ever stayed in at any hotel ever. The toilet seat and bathtub had hairs on them, the bathtub had other visible dirt, and the floor was filthy. Walking on it barefoot, it felt sticky/tacky, so I took a towel and wiped a bit of it - see the attached photo. The TV remote was also weirdly sticky. All in all, just...ick. Unfortunately I didn't notice all this until I had settled in a bit, so I ****** it up and stayed. In retrospect I wish I'd complained and maybe gotten a different room. There are so many positive reviews for this place, perhaps I was unlucky and just got a bad apple. But still. No room at Best Western should be so gross. Based on my experience I would never stay here again, and I cannot recommend it.

Location is right on the beach. Staff were extremely friendly, polite and accommodating. The room was very clean with everything you’d need. There’s an outdoor pool, lounge area in the rear and access to the beach. It’s far enough away from the touristy part of Virginia Beach. I would recommend this establishment and we’ll be returning.

This is an older hotel right on the beach, and it shows its age a bit from the wear and tear from being that close to the water, but it's a solid deal for the price and I would go back. We were there for two nights (a Wednesday and Thursday night) while attending an event in Norfolk and thought it would be nicer to stay by the beach than in town. We had a room on the 4th floor facing the ocean with a small balcony. Great view. Room itself was fine. Nice TV with built in Netflix, etc. Shower was definitely a little tired, but worked fine. (I don't think I would have been as happy if I had a room facing the parking lot. I'm not sure that was based on the room type I selected or just dumb luck.) There's a decent pool and you can walk right down onto the beach. There is not a ton of sand between the dunes and the ocean, but it was never overly crowded during the two days we were there. Cons: Common area trashcans were frequently overfilled and had a bunch of flies, none of the doors close particularly well (had to really pull on the room door to make sure it had latched; same with the balcony door), first floor ACs dripping pools of water into the common outdoor walkways due to all the humidity, some exterior areas need a little touch up on paint, etc (normal for being right on the water) Pros: Nice view (see attached photos), easy beach access, easy parking, plenty of food and basic grocery shopping options in the area (not much in walking distance, but plenty within a mile), standard make-your-own-waffle free breakfast, comfortable bed (two queens), AC worked well despite high temperature and humidity outside. I'd say it was a good value for what we paid. It wasn't amazing or perfect, but if you want to spend a night right on the beach for a decent price, this is not a bad choice. The view from the room was better than I was expecting. I'd definitely consider staying there again -- definitely a higher floor in the tower side is the way to go for a good view of the ocean.

The beds are extremely hard and uncomfortable. The breakfast has nice choices but runs out very quickly and the warmer doesn't keep the items warm.

My family and I stayed at BW@OV for 4 days. First, the location of this hotel is amazing. It is on the beach with great rises, sunsets, lots of wildlife, on the fourth the fireworks off 1st view were the best. This BW@OV is near all types of restaurants, a couple of grocery stores, and near to shopping or sightseeing. Totally, a 5 out of 5. However, I rented a kitchenette suit with a sofa bed. Inside the sofa bed was dirty with grit, sand, etc. When I asked for a blanket, the office staff told me that the hotel was out of blankets. I would need to wait until someone who had a blanket checked out. Note: There are no blankets, extra sheets, or clean pillows in the room. The blankets did become available on the 3rd day when I saw a blanket on a cart. The housekeeper gave the blanket to me when I made a request for it. So be sure to bring your own bedding supplies. Another issue was that the kitchenette did not have a kitchenette kit. The room has a small refrigerator, a stove, and a microwave, but the room was not equipped to use as a kitchenette. No plates, silver/plastic ware, no cooking utilities, containers, pots, or pans. The staff who checked us in did not explain that the kitchenette was not equipped when I checked in. I went back to the office to inquire if maybe they forgot to offer the kitchenette kit to me. The office staff was very professional as they explained they had a limited amount of kitchenette kits, and they were all distributed. I later learned the BW OV kitchenette rooms had less than 50% availability for the kits. This fact alone is disconcerting since the management knows the number of rooms with kitchenettes and therefore, the number of kits that would be needed. I am very solutions-focused so for less than $30 and a quick run to Dollar Tree I equipped my own kit. Ultimately, my family and I overcame these challenges. Despite these challenges, we enjoyed our stay. The deck/pool is right on the beach and is open from 10 AM- 10 PM, and only a short walk-up a nearby path to the Chesapeake Bay. The morning breakfast is nice and offers a variety of items to choose from, including breakfast eggs, meats, pastries, waffles, and, of course, coffee for us. The office staff, housekeeping, and janitors were delightfully friendly, helpful, and professional. I would say the positives outweigh the negatives as long as one is prepared to be solution-focused and take care of what you may need. Also note, that there are no room rate adjustments for anything lacking. I hope you enjoy your stay at the beach if you decide to stay in this hotel.

The room was nice, I didn't use the elevator because it was too far from the room, the stairs to the second floor are steep. The breakfast was good, but crowded. Parking is good. There is a path to the beach. The front desk is friendly and helpful.
