I should preface this by warning that Greenland is expensive, so the $300 per night at SØMA was expected, since I had a nice room overlooking the port and mountains. I had a big screen TV to watch Wimbledon on this blustery day (39 degrees Fahrenheit with 50 mph gusts of wind). But there aren’t any fancy toiletries - there’s 1 dispenser of clear soap at the sunk and one in the shower. I had a single bed. However, the Saturday night dinner was amazing. It was a seafood buffet with lots of huge oysters, big crab legs, mussels, dried Greenlandic delicacies, local fish, as much as you want and more. I was so enamored with the oysters I didn’t really try much else. There was a variety of homemade bread, and one that tasted like sourdough was my favorite. It was fluffy and cake-like at the same time. The Special Greenlandic special menu is only served on Wednesdays and Saturdays. But on other days of the week there are some Greenlandic dishes such as musk ox patties with a lingonberry sauce. That was tasty, as well as the lamb. The breakfast is a full breakfast (usually eggs, bacon, sausage and bread), and a yogurt/fruit/granola combination. The staff is very friendly and helpful. In fact, I saw the desk manager try to help one guest with something on his iphone for at least 20 minutes. It’s easy to walk into town from the hotel. I picked this hotel because it’s near the port where the midnight cruise departs.
