Oliphant Boutique Villa by Amaya

Great hotel, very traditional and fitting for the "Little England" of Sri Lanka. The rooms are large, very comfortable and we woke up feeling like we were in an English country hotel. Beautiful grounds and the dining room was cosy with a roaring fire for cooler nights. The staff were very friendly and polite and couldn't do enough for you. Highly recommend this hotel. Also recommend a walk round Lake Gregory and a tea factory tour

Beautiful hotel in tea plantation area. Everything about this place wreaked history, the building,its environment. However for us one night was enough and if we had to cut one location from our 3 week trip it would be this one. Monmouth time consuming journey for very little. Although beautiful it was cold, which we knew when we booked , but the hotel was freezing. For the only time in Sri Lanka we found the staff a little surly . In fact after our evening meal , which was ok not memorable, we went into the ‘lounge area’ to play cards. This was 8.30pm, unlit fire , no one came to offer drinks or a blanket , the staff walked straight passed us and at 9pm turned light of and disappeared, we had no choice but to go to bed at 9.20pm.

Actual rating 3.5 The review sums it up...it's a cute colonial bungalow with a spacious garden...the room is well restored but was rather puzzled with the choice of tacky heat panels.... It's situated within a functioning tea estate though the factory is abandoned. There is also a view point, couldn't really find it though with the poor signage, but nevertheless had a nice short hike... The staff was efficient and experienced. The real downside was the food. Dinner was a set menu. The chicken was so-so and the margarita pizza was burnt... The breakfast (local option chosen) was slightly better, but extremely spicy (even for us locals) and with only a few accompaniments. The Google map directions are accurate and road is in good condition upto the bungalow. The rating is rounded up only because we found the place to be quite picturesque and charming....

Excellent boutique lodgings high on hilltop of Oliphant tea plantation. Though not on the set menu, at our request custom offering of delicious Sri Lankan foods like Cashew curry, Gotukola sambol, and Pol (Coconut) sambol, etc. were delicious and arranged by Lakshman the attentive head of staff. He has been with the hotel since its opening 7yrs ago. He is a gem.

Wonderfully relaxing one night stay. Small hotel with walks through adjacent tea plantation. Staff could not be friendlier or more helpful. Enjoyed lunch as arrived. Whilst there was no curry on the set menu they very helpfully provided this option. Best breakfast so far too. The atmosphere is relaxed helped by being at 6800’ ASL which gives a purity to the air. Le style colonial anglais à été préservé avec goût. Hôtel de charme très bien entretenu avec une très bonne cuisine variée. Personnel attentionné et toujours très aimable. Pas ou peu d’activités à part un jeu d’échec et un badminton. À prévoir si vous comptez rester plusieurs jours de bons bouquins. Recommande vivement.
