The Grange at Oborne

I took my Father to The Grange for Fathers Day lunch today. The setting, food and service were perfect. We will definitely return and not hesitate to recommend.

Sorry to give a four star review and break a run of 5 star reviews. Generally, this is a lovely hotel with superb decor and good food. Staff are very welcoming and pleasant. We had room 5 which was a junior suite. The room was very hot when we arrived so we opened some windows only to find there were people smoking below so needed to close the windows again. Bed was very firm so we didn’t get a brilliant night’s sleep. Also, an issue in the bathroom caused an accident - two glass shelves over the toilet area with the towels hanging below caused a nasty cut when I went to dry my hands during the night. Reported this to staff the next day. Breakfast was not as good as the previous night’s dinner - bacon very hard and dry. Probably would not return.

The Grange is a lovely place to stay, off the beaten track in the countryside but with lots of interesting places to visit nearby - there is a bookcase full of maps and information available for guests. The hotel is beautifully decorated with amazing wallpapers and many quirky things to admire. All the staff we encountered were very friendly and we had a comfortable room with a balcony overlooking the garden. We enjoyed excellent breakfasts, the dinners weren't quite so good, and don't expect anyone to be able to advise on what wine to pair with the food! However it was very pleasant to come down for a drink in the bar and to be served canapes while deciding what to eat. The best dishes we ate were the chicken in tarragon cream sauce and the little Dorset apple sponge with custard which was the perfect size to finish a meal Two odd little things our visit - it was my birthday while we were staying and I did inform them on booking and gave my date of birth for check in just the day before but this wasn't acknowledged in any way. The express check out was also unusual, fortunately we chose to get our bill the night before leaving and were able to spot an error on it and have it corrected before automatically paying it. Nevertheless we enjoyed our stay and hope to visit again when we are next in the area.

We only stayed for one night, a shame it wasn't longer, this is such a lovely hotel situated in the countryside, only a few minutes from Sherbourne. The room was excellent having a very comfortable bed. The service from staff was very efficient and professional

Stayed with my mum for a night. We had one of the new rooms which opens up onto the garden. It was beautiful, lovely walk in shower. It’s a nice touch to find games in the lounge area, we enjoyed a game of cards before getting ready for dinner. The meal in the evening was excellent. Enjoyed our stay. Friendly staff

A wonderful, relaxed place to stay with outstanding customer care, staff are excellent, wonderful service, fantastic fresh, locally sourced food, beautiful surroundings...will be back! Thank you to all at The Grange for a lovely stay.
