Golden Phoenix Hotel-Manila

I've been staying at this hotel for years, and I’ve grown fond of it mainly because of its great location and friendly staff. However, on this recent visit, I couldn’t help but notice that the rooms are starting to show their age. There was a slight smell of cigar smoke in the room upon check-in, the linens weren’t ironed, and I noticed the absence of a luggage rack and work desk , small but useful amenities that are usually expected. The air conditioning was also quite noisy, and its tubing was exposed, which affected the overall comfort. Some wallpaper areas were torn, and there was no sheer curtain for daytime privacy. While these may seem like minor issues, over time they add up. Perhaps I’m just more observant now after staying here for so long, but I really think the rooms could use a little facelift or refresh. Breakfast remains so-so, nothing special. I just wish the breakfast matched the quality of food served in their restaurant, which I truly enjoy. That said, I’d still recommend this hotel for its price and location. I just hope management considers these improvements to keep loyal guests like me coming back.

There was a terrible smell in the corridors - like sulphur and sewerage, so bad that other guests had to hold their breath. When I mentioned it to the reception lady, she just smiled and said she would talk to housekeeping - it was a very patronising response when clearly they have a problem with the smell. All the food at breakfast was cold too when it should have been warm. The room was ok, but the shower was only like warm water no matter how long you let the water run and the water never drained properly. All in all for the cost I paid, I won't be going back. There are much better options
