Oceanfront Litchfield Inn

The bad: I spoke to reservationist three times before arriving. Each time I was assured that our room would have an ocean view balcony which was a must. When we arrived, the hotel was full and our room did not have a balcony at all. I was told by staff that reservations are handled from a call center in Jamaica. They recommend in the future trying to reach the hotel directly which I tried prior to our arrival with no success. The website photo of the room we were in, a king suite, really looks like it has a sliding glass door. But that is just a window. Housekeeping comes daily to replace towels but no cleaning. They never took out our trash. Not once. We were there for five nights. I was told they only take the trash out if the trashcan, which is very small, is full. It was full daily. We ended up just taking it out daily. Management advised me that the daily cleaning charge is for departure cleaning only. The good: the room was very clean and nicely decorated and updated. The small kitchen was nice. The restaurant provided a decent complimentary breakfast and menu for lunch and dinner. Overall, the food was good and priced fairly. It was nice that we didn’t have to leave the complex to get lunch or dinner. While they were unable to meet our request for a balcony, staff was pleasant.

The unit had significant mold which hadn’t been cleaned up in a long time including mold on the he bed frame, wooden lamp base on the night stand and the wall behind the bed. The manager stated they didn’t have any other openings even though they did on-line and only offered to have the room cleaned. The level of mold was not something someone could come in a quickly/safely resolve. This was at 9:00 pm after a long drive with a 4 yr old. As a result, I had to find another place to stay at 9:30 pm. It seemed like they didn’t care since the reservation was made through Trip Advisor.

I booked a room for October and unfortunately my plans changed. I thought no problem as I saw the cancellation policy stated cancellation was free if done 14 days before the trip. A week after cancellation and I am still waiting on the refund of nearly $400 deposit that was paid on booking. So I am now waiting and trying to recover the money. I would be cautious in the future booking anywhere that requires a deposit.

We walk into a very musty smelling room. I think well this could be because we’re oceanfront and it’s damp so I try to overlook that. There is a puddle of water in the floor in front of the mini fridge and it is not working. There is a puddle of water under the room air conditioner. We take our towels clean all that up and I think well I’ll address that tomorrow. I go to take a shower and there are 1 million bugs in the bathroom. At this point, I called the front desk and tell them my concerns. They did send someone up to spray for Bug and they changed out the refrigerator. After they left, we realize the tub is not draining so they had to come back and unstop the drain in the tub. I forgot to mention that there is a phone in the room to reach the front desk. I’m assuming. However, the phone is not operable, and I had to make all my calls on my cell phone. I did eat at the bar restaurant that night and the food was delicious Fast-forward to the next day and we were out for the day when we came back, no one had been in our room to replenish towels or take out the trash And we had no toilet paper I buzz the front desk to let them know and they said that they were a little backed up. Could I come down and get those things? ( it was 6 PM.) so I did go down and get those things fast forward to the next day and no one still has not been in our room to do anything. I have stayed at the Litchfield before and had a really nice visit I do love the location and the guy downstairs that I spoke to you. A couple times was really really nice and the lady I spoke with was nice and apologetic. I voiced my concerns indicating that we were here for six days, and I was hoping that my room would at least be tidied up and the bed made but so far none of that has happened The hotel is dated I will say But it isn’t a good location and has great beach access. The restaurant downstairs is good. I did not try the upstairs restaurant which is more pricey. The pools seem to be very nice even though I didn’t use them. I bought a room air freshener plug-in to use while we were here because of the musty odor Also did run out and get my own Keurig to use in the room because the pot that was in here did not look super sanitary. I went downstairs to get a cup of coffee the first day and they were at three dollars for a black coffee and I figured as much coffee as I drink I might as well bring for a Keurig.

I want to comment on some other reviews and give my viewpoint. I stayed in Tower room 530 for 4 nights, in May. It is true that there are lots of fees. All fees are listed on the website. Most places I looked at had lots of resort fees, etc., tacked on, so I was not surprised at the final price, as I did lots of careful looking and asked questions before I booked. I didn't compare prices- I wanted the oceanfront balcony, which was wonderful and mostly in the shade all day. Things I loved- coffee on my oceanfront balcony in the morning, the nice bed, the fridge and microwave, the GREAT A/C which let me keep the room cold, the great ceiling fan, and the huge beach with a big swath that was compressed soft sand and very easy to walk on. The two dead jellyfish I saw during my stay were interesting to look at. The little shells that burrowed into the sand were so cute! The beach is endless and it was not overly crowded. In the mornings, it was almost empty. We liked the good singer they had playing on the deck one evening. He was by one pool, and lots of people were there listening to him, and we were at the other pool, where the volume was a bit less. There were several outdoor dining tables on the patio next to the pool bar/restaurant, with ocean view, and the service was good. And the food was good. No one mentioned anything about timeshares. I mostly used the stairs, but the elevator in the tower seemed fine to me. I put the do not disturb sign on my door and when I needed more TP, I went to the front desk and got it right away. The buffet breakfast was steaming hot- served in covered heated dishes. I loved having scrambled eggs, potatoes, grits and cheese for breakfast. They also had sausage and bacon, breads you could toast, fresh fruit, including bananas, muffins, donuts, PB and jelly and honey and juice and coffee (ours was served in a pot at our table). The servers were fine and very friendly. Things I noticed but didn't mind- The shower spray was not SUPER strong, the stairwell needed sweeping, TP was thin, floors were a tiny bit sandy, but this is usually the case with oceanfront rooms. I wore socks in the room if it bothered me, or put towels on the floors as bathmats. We brought our own beverages in water bottles, to drink while poolside. They didn't care. We moved the pool chairs away from where they had been placed so we'd be in the shade, and that was fine. I was happy to see some staff members enjoying drinks poolside when they were done for the day- they were all so nice. If you are wanting a fancy place with turndown service and a chocolate on the pillow, this in not the place for you. For me, it was a relaxing place with friendly helpers.

Just drove 8 hours to come here. Long line to check in and @ 5:15 pm, after waiting in line for an hour, were told by reception that our room was not ready. Staff not sympathetic to issue at all. No option for alternative room or other solution provided.
