A warm welcome awaits at this characterful olde worlde large cottage, which is set in the depths of the countryside… it really is properly dark at night, which certainly helps to give a restorative good nights sleep! The visit is made by Karen and Anna, who are two very well travelled and fascinating ladies, with lots of tales to tell, and couldn’t have made us feel more welcome. The accommodation itself is full of olde worlde charm, as befitting a building of such a gracious age . There are no airs and graces here, but the room is very clean and the bed comfortable. The bathroom is large, but only has a bath (no shower). The heating in the bathroom was lovely and warm. Unfortunately the heating in our room wasn’t working, but Anna did light a lovely big log fire for us in the lounge area. The “welcome tray” was a bit disappointing, as only teabags were on offer, and there were no biscuits. Breakfast was tasty, but again the choice very sparse. There was cereal available , (which I don’t eat) but the choice of cooked breakfast was simply bacon and egg. As I don’t like eggs, I only had the option of bacon . I was served just the one rasher, which I felt was a bit mean! However it was delicious, as was the toast, but it was not exactly the “set you up for the day meal” you receive at many a country b and b! However we did really enjoy our stay here as it just felt so homely. Some tips : you definitely need google maps to find the cottage. It is hidden down the end of a long private narrow drive with no signage from the road whatsoever- which is very confusing when you are using an old fashioned map ! Also the best route to Bearwood is from Pembridge. We found approaching the property from the south was rather hair raising with all the pot holes along the narrow country lanes. Incidentally the best pub in the area for meals is The Crown at Dilwyn, but you will need to book as it is only little! (And go by the main roads!).
