"I stayed for one night at The Chambers Hotel. Though it’s well maintained, it still looks dated but still comfortable enough. The receptionist was friendly enough to upgrade me to family room as my own room type was already full. Wifi is quite strong though it may lag sometimes when streaming videos. The toiletries are relatively sufficient with both shampoo/body soap combo and toilet paper (though there’s a bidet spray). I couldn’t find the hair dryer and was careful about opening drawers as some of them looked old and brittle. It would be good if the furniture could be maintained better. Location-wise, this is a very good location as it’s just opposite the Esplanade. It’s a good location for those who wants to mostly visit points of interest in historical George Town. I picked this location as I needed to take my ferry to Butterworth in the morning and this is just 10 minutes walk away. However, as it’s right next to the main road, there tends to be noisy cars passing by even during the wee hours. Convenience wise, there is a water dispenser in the hotel and there is also a 7-Eleven if you need stuff late at night."

"Satisfied with the cleanliness, love the antique feel and the family room design. Breakfast is nice although slow due to the ala cart and small kitchen. Reception service is ok but their knowledge is limited to within the hotel only. They know nothing outside the hotel even though it's just around the hotel within walking distance."

"If you are tired or sensitive to noise, this hotel is not for you. Because the house is old, the sound insulation is not ideal, and there are creaking sounds from cars, motorcycles and old houses outside the window. Since you need to take off your shoes before going up to the guest room, be careful of the slippery solid wood floor, I almost fell. There was a power outage downstairs on the night I checked in. Be careful when choosing a loft room, because there is a thick beam above the front of the bed. If you mind, don't choose it. The hotel can be said to be very distinctive and beautiful, and it is very suitable for those who like the historical and cultural heritage of Nanyang. The staff is very friendly and the service is proactive and enthusiastic, but based on my experience this time, I can't give a high score."

"if you guys are looking for place that are really near to penang street art and padang kota, then Bishop Hotel is really the best to stay. it is so near to Georgetown main attraction as it is really walkable. staff is really friendly and check in process is really fast. required a deposit of rm100 and can be obtain back after check out. speaking of room, it’s not spacious enough, thin wall and no fridge. but it’s quite ok if just wanna hangout and chill. other than that, it was a really nice experience staying at this hotel. definitely would love to stay here again in the future."

"The hotel was great and provided a free-flow water dispenser. The bedsheet and blanket were clean and free from mites. Just a few suggestions for improvement: the toilet should be cleaned more thoroughly as there were some stains. The room could use additional lighting as it was a bit dim. Iron with an ironing board should be provided on each floor. Currently, the ironing facilities are only available near the reception area."

"The room was quite noisy. In the mornings, we could hear teachers giving speeches on the nearby school's sports field. Conversations from the hallway easily seeped in through the gap under the door. From 9 PM to midnight, the sound of singers performing at the nearby Red Garden Hawker Centre was also audible. On a positive note, the view from the room window was nice, and the facilities were good."

"Pro Location is super near to a very big mall which is Gurney Plaza, just walk less than 2min after exit hotel lobby Cleaniness are well maintained. Super friendly staff, feels welcome the moment u stepped in. I took the executive package which comes with free flow drinks, food, and also simple dinner and free flow alcohol in the evening. However if you are planning for food trip around Penang you might want to opt out this. Free parking, decent size swimming pool for children, great gym with lots of equipment but might be a bit cramp, great variety for breakfast buffet. They share facilities with nearby G Hotel Kelawei like swimming pool, gym and lounge. Besides Kelawei has a pool party which is free to play. They have a buggy to bring you there too. Cons I got a room with bad working AC. Took some time to get it done. I took the buffet dinner at 168 but not much choices and even though the theme is crab but the crab always gone the moment they refill and you need to wait min 10min till the next round. Would recommend to go outside for a better dinner."

"It’s my second stay at Spices, a restored heritage shophouse hotel with nine rooms. With complimentary coffee and tea as well as a library, the two lounge areas are a peaceful place to relax and unwind after a day of gallivanting, exploring, and eating your way through Georgetown’s bustling markets. It’s in an ideal central location while also being down a quiet street, so there’s not much noise, even if your room is street side. There is a mosque nearby though, so light sleepers will have an early wake up. Thank you to the friendly staff for accommodating me again."

"A Chinese-owned bed and breakfast is very close to the surname bridge. There are also many Chinese-opened tea rooms for breakfast. The room is small, the toilet is cool, and no one can speak Chinese when the boss is absent. The grand birthday of the Tiangong, I do not know whether it is fireworks or someone hit the window. Anyway, when the shower was in the window, the window was so loud that the mother was scared. I thought someone was out of the window. I quickly called to come over and check, and I didn’t find out the reason. The staff was also very good. It’s said that we didn’t change rooms, and we didn’t bother to change the last day."

Great
66399399My recent stay in the Heritage Wing completely redefined my perception of heritage hotels – it's not just a vessel of history, but a dual feast of aesthetics and service! **📸 A Photographer's Paradise: Every Shot is a Movie Poster** Stepping into the room, I was instantly captivated: vintage louvered windows filtered soft sunlight, and the sapphire-blue sea view of the Strait of Malacca was framed like an oil painting. Every photo looks effortlessly stunning, as if it already has a built-in filter! The room retains classic 19th-century Straits Settlement colonial elements – black and white tiled floors, brass ceiling fans, carved dressing tables – every corner tells a story. My absolute favorite was the **century-old elevator**, intricately crafted with brass accents and wood grain; photos taken here feel like a journey back to a scene from ”In the Mood for Love.” The Heritage Wing pool was another delightful surprise; blue and white tiles reflecting palm trees. As dusk falls, the sunset casts a golden glow, and every snap turns into a magazine spread! From the arches of the sea-facing promenade to the antique bathtub in the Writer's Suite, even the best lighting times for photos are noted. Every morning, a **handwritten newspaper** hangs on the doorknob, there's complimentary **red wine and soft drinks** in the mini-bar, and the precisely timed **Heritage Wing exclusive Happy Hour** in the evening (sparkling wine with goat cheese was divine!). These details speak volumes of the old-world charm and meticulous craftsmanship. **🌊 Immerse Yourself in Living History, Where Even the Sea Breeze Whispers Tales** Sitting on the sea-facing terrace, leafing through the hotel's historical records detailing Sun Yat-sen's five stays, and sipping on English black tea, amidst the sound of waves, one could almost hear the rustle of Maugham's pen writing here. The **privacy** in the Heritage Wing far exceeded my expectations; with fewer crowds and beautiful scenery, the pool was almost entirely ours, perfectly avoiding the tourist rush. The freshly made **Penang Char Kway Teow** for breakfast had incredible 'wok hei' (smoky wok flavor). Eating outdoors with my plate (watch out for crows trying to snatch food!), with the colonial promenade's arches behind me and an endless sea view before me – such a morning deserves to be captured in a hundred photos! **✨ Tips for Future Guests** - **Room Selection Tip**: Definitely request a high-floor sea-view suite (avoid lower-floor street-facing rooms to minimize noise). - **Golden Photography Hours**: 7-9 AM for soft light filtering through the promenade; 6 PM for sunset 'blue hour' by the pool. - **Hidden Perk**: Heritage Wing guests have complimentary access to the Victory Annexe's infinity pool, doubling your photo opportunities! This trip, The Eastern & Oriental Hotel has transcended mere ”accommodation.” It's a living fossil of Straits Chinese charm, a benchmark for the art of hospitality, and a compelling reason to fly to Penang specifically for it! Next time, I must bring a cheongsam to capture this old-world romance even more deeply through my lens! ✨

FFiona Sor HuaOur first time visiting Penang, was greeted warmly by the staffs of The Granite Luxury Hotel. love the space by lobby, didn't feel overwhelmed by crowd n nice area for photo taking. Room is comfortable n clean with adequate toiletries in bathroom. My only issue is the Wi-Fi don't seems to work as well and the rooftop bar look sad n too warm to sit out. Generally a conveniently located hotel that's walking distance to lots to do and eat

DDrOBYMy wife and I stayed 4 nights here recently. Highlights: - Prime location in the heart of Georgetown—walking distance to shopping malls, eateries, and key attractions. - Reliable high-speed internet, ideal for both work and leisure. - Complimentary parking with a convenient license plate recognition system. - Warm, courteous staff who go the extra mile to assist. - Breakfast spread was impressive—varied, fresh, and satisfying. On the negative side: - Room size is quite small, which may not suit guests seeking spacious accommodation. - Unusual housekeeping policy: rooms are only cleaned once every two days, which may not meet expectations for daily upkeep. Overall Verdict: While the location and amenities are commendable, the limited room space and infrequent cleaning schedule detract from the overall experience. For the price point, it falls short of delivering full value for money.

GGuest UserLooking at the review of hotels in Malaysia, there seem to be tons of people giving negative reviews for almost every hotel so was pretty wary of booking this hotel and all the other ones I stayed at! However, I found that this was a decent hotel albeit with some minor problems. To start with the good. The hotel is well constructed, by that I mean the rooms and walls are made of good material so that generally sound from other rooms or outside is not an issue. This is my main concern, because you must be able to sleep peacefully or live in your room without being disturbed by neighbours or the outside, that should be the primary goal of any hotel. The room size is also very large, although I found small things like the funny diagonal shaped desk not to be practical because it was too small to use comfortably. Also, you cannot connect your laptop to the TV with and HDMI because the TV is fixed to the wall. I had some small issues with a blocked basin and the shower hose was broken, but these were resolved after a couple of visits. I needed to persuade maintenance man to change the hose, which I thought was strange as it was obviously broken. He called in housekeeping afterwards to clean up some of the water on the floor that came from the work. The cleaner used one of the body towels to wipe up the water. I said that he should at least use the floor towel and not the ones for the body. He said it was ”Just water”. As someone who is prone to eczema, I have to be careful about detergents and what I put on my skin. If this is something that house cleaning do regularly, this would be a problem for me. (I did start getting some skin issues here, but cannot say for certain it was due to the hotel). There was also some old stains on the bed sheets that I had to ask to be changed. Bed sheets like that need to be either bleached or thrown away. They may not pose any health risks but no one wants to sleep on visibly stained sheets. Also, the small sofa bench on at the foot of the bed was heavily stained and really needs to be re-furbished. The breakfast was okay. I remember the dining area which is nice, but not much of the actual food. I just like eggs, toast, fruit and coffee. The check-in is on the 20th floor, so you will probably only see the managers when you check-in and when you check-out. I had a nice Indian lady check me in. I saw one other man manager, portly Indian man, there when I tried to extend by one night, who I found to be less friendly. I would stay here again, as the problems were minor. (I also stayed at the Citadines, which I absolutely do not recommend).

RRlmeThe hotel is modern and very pretty! Love the decoration and design. It’s clean, the bed is comfortable (not the pillow) and I love the shower water pressure and the idea of having water dispenser for sustainability drive. A few things that disappointed a little: 1. Was assigned to room 212 which is located close to lift, I barely slept on the first night. One group of guests walked pass ard 12:50am and were talking and laughing so loudly, followed by the loud door closing sound (no soft closing). Then another group came back around 1:45am and I woke up because of the loud door opening and closing sound (3 times)…the aircon was centralised and quite cold, tried adjusting to higher temperature with lower volume but the control parcel is useless. The pillow was not comfortable also, the cotton was not even, too high for my liking. Morning 8:45am the house keeping person tried accessing the store room and entered the wrong PIN code for a few times and the beeping sound was non stop and I woke up again :( 2. Thankfully we were changed to another room at level 3, I managed to sleep better for the 2nd and 3rd night. But when we came back on Day 3, I wanted to watch TV but the remote control was missing. We called the front desk for a few times but no answer around 11pm, had to go down and request for the remote control to be delivered to my room. Guess what, we waited for 15 mins but no one came, called again and finally the house keeping staff showed up after 5 mins. Then when we opened the door, he asked us multiple times that why it’s missing and even requested us to check drawers etc. we searched everywhere before we called, only being accused after waiting for 20 mins. Then waited another 5 mins for him to get a new one and came back. So speechless… 3. I like the free coffee service that they offer, however there’s no food options and no room service. Most of the nearby shops close early and it’s quite hard to find for food at night if you are hungry 4. Not all the staffs are very friendly, the lady receptionist that we encountered was not super friendly and helpful. She told me that when we came down, the replacement room would be ready but it’s not, I waited for another 5 mins standing there until she got everything sorted out. Felt that she was unwilling to help

TteddylifeReview of Sunway Hotel, George Town I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Sunway Hotel in George Town, and I was thoroughly impressed with its prime location, making it incredibly convenient to explore the surrounding attractions. One standout feature was the spaciousness of the room, which far exceeded what you typically find in newly developed hotels. While the decor and finishing did feel somewhat dated, it was evident that the hotel has been very well maintained, ensuring a clean and comfortable stay. Overall, the combination of a great location, roomy accommodations, and excellent upkeep makes the Sunway Hotel a solid choice for travelers.

AAnonymous UserThe location is very good, but the Chinese name of the hotel is different from the Chinese name on the hotel site. The hotel entrance is very hidden, the room is not big, the facilities are average, and the taxes and fees are different from those shown on the Ctrip website, 10.3RM/day (RMB after discount) The tax is about 16 yuan). The hotel price and actual situation are slightly not worth it. The hotel requires slippers to enter the second floor. Some tiles on the stairs have fallen off, which can easily cause injury.

CCHONG CHING3 Days 2 nights stay at Chulia Mansion Georgetown We booked 2 superior rooms for 2 nights via trip.com for Rm644.40 or Rm161.10/room/night . We checked in to Room 207 and room 215 upon arrival. Once the door of Room 207 was opened, a bad odour full of stingy smell appeared. We did not care to take action at that moment. We went out for good food. After coming back to hotel to rest, we tried to check whereabout the smell coming from, and to take action by closing the toilet door from that moment thru the night. Sad to say, the stingy smell was still there all night long, and I could not have a good night sleep thru the night while surrounded with bad odour. On top of that, the toilet shower rubber hose was cracked and water rushed out during our shower in day time. The following day, I went to the lobby to tell the hotel lady, all the facts and request to change to another room. The lady checked the hotel computer system and told me that the hotel was fully booked a night before once housekeeping was done, they will give me a new room. That was roughly 12 noon. So, they tell me to go back to stay in room 207 to rest, and to wait for her call. At 12 something , one man knocked on my door and sprayed our room 207 with air freshener, changed the hose and left. By 1pm, I was uneasy and I went to the Lobby to follow up with the change of room. The same lady was watching something like movie her table, I asked her why nothing done to call and inform me to change to a new room. She raised her head and looked at me and said that the housekeeper informed her that there was nothing wrong with the room. At that moment, my temper was up and I told her firmly and repeatedly that i want to change to a new room. The next thing happened was that we were checked into room 315. We were lucky and happy that room 315 has no bad stingy smell. However, the shower hose in the room 315 was rosak then again I told the lobby about the facts. So, moral of my stay is to follow up with the LOBBY all issues and defect in the hotel room that I feel unhappy with. The whole purpose of the stay is to get happiness and relax by paying cash that worth the value, and not wait until check out to complain. Last but not least, room 215 facing the street also noisy due to the sound and noise coming from motorcycle , cars and vehicles during daytime outside street, and also live band, loud music and pub. You can also hear music and live band coming from the roof of Chulia Mansion building itself. Finally, I think if you are a light sleeper this hotel definitely is not your choice.
