OYO the Castlegate Arms

Stopped one night Beat music plays till 12 we where unable to sleep and wouldn't recommend this as a place to stop if you like your sleep The room was clean though bins hadn't been emptied and best not to say what was in them We won't be going back and believe any posts about this accommodation should state about the music it's looking loud and the pub guests are louder

Great friendly hosts. Lovely, extremely clean bar, halls and room. Very comfortable beds and bedding. Water bottles in room were appreciated. Nice biscuits with tea and coffee. Great location in the centre of penrith, two minutes from the train station. We would definitely stay there again when visiting the area.

All pictures on *********** are photo shopped . First room we got given (room 5) was above the cellar and the floor was vibrating with the fans from cooler and the noise was just as bad from it . Old single pain glass windows and no heating. Moved to room two and was colder than outside, room was worn down and glass in bathroom was about to fall out and was like being in a freezer . Batteries dead for tv so unusable and wouldn't or couldn't change them when asked in the bar so I had to walk to the shops and buy some myself . Heating was eventually put on for us for a little over and hour and turned off again and was not put on again in the morning so was freezing again and wet towels because of it and too cold to use the falling apart shower . The place isn't worth £20 a night let alone the £90 they are charging. Avoid this dump at all costs .

This pub has been refurbished and cleaned out to loose its reputation it once had. It has introduced a pleasant atmosphere accompanied by great food of Jamaican origin. Shout out to the chef who is doing a fantastic job! A good mixed menu which will be improved upon and I recommend a visit if you are in town (both locals and travelling alike) Couldn’t recommend it more.

Honestly, do not stay here! Absolutely appalling, this is basically a Rave to the early hours of the morning. No consideration for its guests at all, main focus is keeping the regulars happy with their hardcore/trance music! We had been on the road from Manchester since 5am and had done a 10 hour shift outdoors in the freezing cold, we couldn’t wait to get a hot shower and relax in comfort, this place is far from it! And may I add, this was a Monday night and the noise level went on til 2am if not later. We were up at 6am for our next working day and felt absolutely shattered. We were due to stay the Tuesday night but decided against it as the place was that bad. The shower is either scalding hot or freezing cold, no in between and was the worst I’ve ever experienced. AVOID!!!!!!!

Me and my husband stayed here for a week, let's just say... we would not recommend this at all, unless you are in your early 20s. Who wants shots and load music. When we arrived at the property, no one was there to let's up in. Had to wait an hour for the owner to arrive, to give us the keys. The own informed us that music I played till closing time, which is midnight. We was fine with that, but you have a group of people in the car park with a portable speaker, drinking and smoking ****. At midnight the noise still continued and you could hear people being sick in the room next to us. If you want to have a shower it's either too hot or cold. We've ended our holiday a day early, as with our last night being a Friday, we felt the noise would be too much. Not getting sleep was getting to us. Reported the place to *********** as that's who we booked through.
