Hotel Plan Bois

I was part of a large group who’d booked with Crystal. We had rooms on the 3rd and 4th floor. The ones on the 4th floor had mezzanine upper floors with two twin bed downstairs and two other single beds and a set of bunk beds upstairs but as there were only two of us that allowed us to have our own space. The hotel is family run and at the budget end of the range. On an overall basis I like it. I would echo other reviewers comments about breakfast. The hot items are not kept hot by inefficient food warmers and the coffee machines are just ok. But there are other buffet items. I felt the evening meals were fine. A range of appetisers from a buffet which were excellent followed by a pasta and meat course all chosen in the morning. Plus lovely desserts and artisan cheese. There is a nice bar and lounge to relax in before and after dinner. There is a ski and boot store in the basement. You can ski in and out from the man slopes by either climbing up a bank or walking 100 yds to the chair lift. All in all a perfectly adequate base for a ski holiday perhaps in need of a little refurbishment and some extra attention to details.

Not a good experience. We went with Crystal Ski Holidays and have given this hotel the poor review it deserved. Our experience was as follows. We had room 201 in this hotel. The shower overflowed and had to be fixed. The shower tray was filthy when we arrived and there was black mould in the corners. The shower head was broken and only had jet setting. Sand/ dirt was in the Childrens beds - a sofa bed and a camp bed. The room was tired and had air heating that was noisy and couldn’t be kept on at night if you wanted to sleep. So we got cold. Also the heating system upstairs was extremely noisy. The food was poor. Breakfast had cold scrambled and boiled eggs and very little of it. Coffee machines broke down and the coffee was awful. Lounge/bar area was cold unless they put on the wood burner but that wasn’t until at least 5pm. No boot drying facilities. Just rusted cages in the basement for your equipment. Gym equipment was ancient and broken. The sauna had to be switched on and had no light. If you are lucky you may get a refurbished room so if you are happy to take that risk and don’t have high expectations then this hotel is well situated. It can be ski in with good snow and you are a reasonable skier. You have to walk down the road and up stairs or climb up a hill to the slopes so it is most definitely not ski out. There are other hotels at similar prices that would be a much better choice in this lovely resort. On a positive note the skiing was great and worked really well for the family.
