Cornish Arms Inn Port Isaac 2 Miles

I would give it an overall rating of good but there isn't the option on TA you are either very good or average. So; Here are my own ratings; Food - Really good! My eyes are always bigger than my tummy so I up talked my pal into ordering a squid plate each as well as a pizza each. It was good, ok so probably like most out the freezer and in the pan but this time it was not those ridiculous rings but what looked like the tentacles bit (two of them) these are my fave bits of squid (which I buy fresh and do a cracking stew of) .. I suppose they could have been faked but I enjoyed them more than any recent restaurant squid starter that I have had. Then came the pizza - I ordered the pepperoni, I try hard to be more adventurous but I always head to fave! This was dam nigh perfect as it had olives and mushrooms which normally you have to add as extras. My perfect pizza is a pepperoni with added spinach or rocket but hey ho hard to get! Oh I like a couple of anchovies on the side too LOL! The base was nice and thin. Not going to comment on crust edges since I never make it that far but the couple of crunches I had were great. The pizza was superb; a good layer of really tomato tasting base, proper mushrooms, tasty pepperoni, and enough cheese to make it enjoyably difficult to try to eat! My pal had the Cornish blue cheese pizza which she declared as really tasty. The place/Ambience I personally really liked it. I haven't felt so relaxed eating out in ages! A warm welcome (well warm in terms of people and decor) bloody cold in terms of temperature but I am nesh so not easy to please in terms of heat. I did get out of my coat to eat! Although at this time of year very much a locals pub I did not feel unwelcome or any other negative feelings that you can get from a local place. Price - more than reasonable. A fair price for good food. Summary; I thought you were really good. My pizza was superb, I loved the squid, I felt comfortable, the music was great, service was fun, ambience (I hate that word because it covers so much) was also good. Would I go back .. absolutely. Just warm it up a bit please!

Went for a nice romantic meal and I was stunned! Mac and cheese did not disappoint, my other half had a medium rare steak and was absolutely amazed how well it came out! Big thanks to Ebony behind the bar, kept us entertained and learnt a lot about the variety of ales and beers that are local around Cornwall. Would definitely recommend to everyone coming

I've visited The Cornish Arms many times over 27 years for drinks and meals when staying nearby so it was the obvious choice when I needed a bed for 4 nights. I was working at a nearby Festival and out from 7.45am to late each day so I needed a comfy local bed. The room was lovely, nice bed, good facilities, very clean. I checked I had been given a front door key as I'd be returning late and made sure which key was which before leaving for my first evening shift. I was not back until 12.30am - I had a head torch and the correct key. It turned anti-clockwise for a whole turn with no resistance but refused to budge at all in a clockwise direction. I tried for 15 mins, phoned the Pub (went to answerphone) and banged on the door. I checked the side door. I went back to the front door and tried again - no luck. In despair I phoned and woke up a friend who was in a holiday cottage a few miles away and drove there to sleep on the sofa. In the morning I returned around 7.15am and the door was open. I had a shower then looked around for a member of staff. The only person available was a very nice chef. We tried the key in the door and could replicate the issue I had by putting the 'snip' down in the locked position. That evening I returned early at 8.30pm but the barman said the Owner was out. I left a message which the barman wrote down, with my phone number. The following days I was out from 7.45 til late and managed to get into the Pub with the Key. (The only people around when I left each day were chefs and the Pub was locked up in the evenings). I heard nothing at all from the Owner after my verbal and written messages - I then messaged via *********** and received no reply, so emailed the pub and still no reply. Finally a reply arrived after I complained to *********** - The Owner claimed that I had probably been turning the key the wrong way (I wasn't - I'm capable of turning a key both ways) and showing not a thread of concern that a lone woman was locked out in the middle of the night. What would have happened if I had been dropped off by a friend and had no car? I'm afraid I won't be giving the Cornish Arms my custom again and neither will my friends and family.
