Koh Thmei Resort

Dieses zauberhafte, kleine Resort ist eins der absoluten Highlights unserer Südostasienreise gewesen. Die super sauberen und liebevoll eingerichteten Bungalows sind direkt am Meer. Von der Hängematte aus konnten wir häufig Nashornvögel und Eichhörnchen beobachten. Das Essen im Resort ist mehr als hervorragend. Wir haben in unseren 9 Tagen auf der Insel (haben verlängert, weil es einfach so schön war) das meiste auf der Speisekarte probieren können und es war einfach alles lecker (vor allem die selbst gemachten Pommes und das Amok in jeglicher Form). Lustig war es, wenn Lina (das Pony des Resorts) vor dem Restaurant auch auf ihr Essen wartete. Kavita und Michael hatten immer ein offenes Ohr für uns, haben unsere An- und Abfahrt organisiert und haben mit ihrem Resort einen absoluten Wohlfühlort geschaffen. Auch nach Tagen sind uns immer wieder kleine , selbstkreierte Dekoelemente aufgefallen, die uns zuvor entgangen waren und es strotzt vor Gemütlichkeit. Außerdem kann man auf der Insel super spazieren gehen und Kayak fahren. Michael hat zudem mit uns eine Schnorcheltour unternommen. Abends saßen wir im Restaurant und haben einige Spiele aus der riesigen Spielesammlung gespielt. Alles in allem eine unvergessliche Zeit! Dankeschön dafür!🥰

Koh Thmei has changed a lot over recent years, deforestation and hunting have decreased the amount of wildlife that you can see on the island. While overfishing and sandwinning in the local sea have caused the island and its beaches to disappear. We stayed during the rainy season and were the only guests in the resort. We expected that we could go snorkeling and lay down on the beaches but the beaches are no longer there and the water is too murky to go snorkeling. This was very disapointing to us, because the owners told us by email that snorkeling was possible. Yet when we arrived we were told that snorkeling was not possible in the rainy season. Our original plan was to stay on the island for 4 nights, and we had still planned to do as such when we found out that snorkeling wasn't possible. As it is still a nice place to be and relax. Things changed however when we discovered that money had been stolen from our wallets that were laying inside our bungalow. Since we were the only guests, we did not think that something like that could happen, especially because the only other people in the resort were the owners and one kitchen maid. This made us feel unsafe and we lost our trust in the resort and the owners so we left early. We were even more disappointed in our stay when we realized, after leaving, that the change we were given after paying consisted of old dollar bills that no longer hold value in Cambodia and are thus unusable in the country. We were unaware of that, since it was our first time in Cambodia and we found it out unexpectedly, which put us in a difficult and stressful situation. We feel like the owner must have known that this money no longer held value in Cambodia since he checked the money we gave him thoroughly. All in all, we were very disappointed by our stay on Koh Thmei and we do not relate to the positive comments we had read about the place beforehand. Although we still think that it can be a nice place to visit in the dry season, it may be a place to avoid in the rainy season.

This place is beautiful and I was really impressed with the high standard of room and food for an island getaway; there are plenty of delicious western and Khmer dishes on the menu. I have lived in Cambodia for nearly 7 years and only heard about Koh Thmei Resort recently, from a recommendation, despite it being open for 12 years. It is defintely a hidden gem that is very reasonably priced. The beach and facilities are clean and everything is well maintained (which isn't always the case for beach resorts).
