Socialtel Puerto Viejo - Formerly Selina Puerto Viejo

Unfortunately, my experience was far below expectations and did not align with the advertised standards of the property or the Selina brand. Upon arrival, I discovered that the hotel was in the process of closing, which drastically impacted the quality of my stay. Below are the specific issues I encountered: Misleading Advertising: The property did not look anything like the online pictures, which was extremely disappointing and felt misleading. Poor Room Conditions: The room was moldy, old, and not well-cleaned. Additionally, there was a pervasive bad smell throughout. Lack of Basic Amenities: There was no hot water, and the windows could not be properly closed. Non-functional Facilities: The on-site restaurant was shut down, which was highly inconvenient as the nearest restaurants were a 15-minute walk away on an unsafe road. No Activities or Social Life: One of the key attractions of staying at Selina properties is their vibrant social and activity offerings, none of which were available during my stay. Wi-Fi Issues: There was no Wi-Fi available for one evening, further diminishing the quality of my experience. False Description: The property was advertised as oceanfront, but it was not beach accessible as implied. Overall, the stay was far from the relaxing start to my Costa Rica vacation I had anticipated. Everything that Selina is known for—vibrant social life, reliable amenities, and high-quality accommodations—was entirely absent. I could have stayed at a significantly better hotel for the price I paid. To make matters worse, I was not informed about the hotel’s closure or the lack of amenities until check-out when I inquired about these issues. This lack of transparency was unacceptable.

Buena experiencia, eso si, mucha gente en la habitación. No recuerdo cuanto cuesta habitaciones mas privadas pero de todas formas lo vale si vas con presupuesto bajo. Fuimos con amigos y la ubicación es ideal, cerca de donde se sale de fiesta y a pasos de la playa.

We are traveling as a couple and had booked a room with a shared bathroom. However, we were upgraded to a room with a private bathroom, which was very nice. The Selina in Puerto Viejo is not the nicest we've stayed at; it's a bit outdated. However, the staff was exceptionally friendly, as we've come to expect from Selina. The beach has a lot of coral, so it's not ideal for swimming. However, with a bike, you can reach Playa Cocles in about 5 minutes, which is really beautiful. The town of Puerto Viejo is also just a 5-minute bike ride away, where you'll find many restaurants and charming little shops.

Las suites son excepcionales, las camas deliciosas, el aire acondicionado funciona perfecto, es seguro y los baños amplios y bonitos. La comida del restaurant es abundante y sabrosa. La manager del lugar es genial. Volveré siempre. A pasos de la playa.

We zijn erg blij met ons verblijf! Alles was goed! Geniet van onze reizen en de dingen die het personeel voor ons mogelijk heeft gemaakt! Direct voor het strand met een prachtig uitzicht! (Foto's van het uitzicht weergeven pool/beach) Heel erg bedankt!

The staff were super friendly and helpful. It was a great hostel. It’s nice and close to town and right on the beach. It also has a really great coworker space if you are needing to do work remotely. I definitely recommend staying here if you find yourself in Puerto Viejo.
