Lizard King Hotel & Suites

My third stay at Lizard King Hotel & Suites in Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica. Great location, walking distance to everything, close to the beach, restaurant's and convenience store. The Staff are always friendly and helpful, I recommend staying here. Pet friendly, A/C, pool, bar, WiFi, free parking and free breakfast.

Super friendly staff. Free breakfast, a la Carte. Perfect location in town. Clean rooms. Comfortable beds. Nice pool although not much area around to hang. Also little sun on pool area. Cosy common area on the second floor. Nice with free coffee and tea all day.

Just stayed here for 9 days and we loved the pool, although it could do with being cleaned more frequently as the tiles tended to be quite dirty. We were sent the wrong room confirmation prior to booking so the manager kindly upgraded us to a double suite for the error and it was great. The air works like a charm and the room is clean with comfy beds, housekeeping do a great job every day. The only problem we had with the room was that it is LOUD due to footsteps on the ceiling above. This woke me up nearly every morning which was a shame but managed to get back to sleep. The breakfast included in the room rate is tasty and consistent, with there being free fruit then coffee served all day which we appreciated. Staff were also happy to fill up your water bottle with their filtered water but it would be even better if they had a water fountain or something for us to do this ourselves! The food served at the restaurant every day is very expensive though, chips and guac are like $10 The actual hotel is really nicely designed, homely and clean. It has a great location opposite to the beach and plenty of shops. Most of the staff go above and beyond, however they don’t speak much English. A few times some of them came across as a bit rude but Im hopeful they this was just due to the language barrier as all of the reviews here talk about how nice they are. Deffo recommend this place!

Nearing the end of our trip, stayed here in Puerto Viejo Excellent place for families as rooms had micro-kitchens. Easy access to main street has noisy nightlife so do not get the room with balcony. Pool is sufficient for 6 adults or so but is not deep. Caribbean Sea is just across the street. Breakfast was basic but enough for kids. Bakery next door had delicious pastries. Lizard King staff went well out of their way to help with an emergency while there. Shower needs slip-resistance added. Shower drain has issues with odor which staff tried to remedy. Not a great place for quiet but great to keep teenagers busy.
